Dr. MacDonald volunteers her time and services, serving as director of community services while in optometry school and traveling to Mexico City with the Gift of Sight Foundation, reaching more than 20,000 people.

Originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Dr. Monique Rice graduated from Lakehead University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He later received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Ophthalmology in Boston, Massachusetts.
Her clinical experience began during her first year of training when she worked on an elementary school vision test. He has had the opportunity to work in several hospitals and clinics in and around the Boston area. His clinical rotations over the past year have included ophthalmology at Manchester VA Medical Center in New Hampshire, pediatrics and primary care at Martha Elliott Medical Center/Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, and contact lens and primary care at Marino EyeCare in Miami, Florida. .

Dr. Lees is thrilled to be a part of Focus Eye Care, serving the communities of Sarnia and Grand Bend. In his free time, Dr. Rhys enjoys hiking, traveling, trying new foods, and spending time at the lake. He has a Polish background and speaks Polish fluently.
Dr. Kristen Johnson grew up in Sarnia. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario in 2013. He later received his doctorate in 2018 from the Michigan Institute of Ophthalmology in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Dr. Johnson completed his fourth and final clinical internship at the School of Optometry. These include private optometry offices, Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Affairs Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan, and Henry Ford Optimizing in Troy, Michigan. While at MCO, she served as president of Student Volunteer Ophthalmology Services for Humanity (SVOSH), an organization that organizes eye care missions in underserved countries. In her third year of school, she traveled to the tiny Caribbean island of Dominica, where she helped provide vision tests and glasses to thousands of the island’s residents.

Kirsten grew up in Bend, graduated from Mountain View High School, completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Puget Sound, and earned a master’s degree in nutrition and sports performance from Florida State University.

Dr. Kirsten Scott received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of the Pacific School of Optometry. While studying at the University of the Pacific, he worked as a research assistant for Ph.D. Alain Rieschaud of the Nike Vision Product Development Center. Dr. Lindsey Slinger received her doctorate in Ophthalmology from the University of California, Berkeley. After graduation, he completed a year-long residency at the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, where he received extensive training in ophthalmology including glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. As part of his training, he trained in the specialty contact lens department at Moran Eye Institute.
Dr. Slinger joined Universal Eye Care in 2017. He enjoys seeing patients of all ages and vision needs. They specialize in custom fit lenses that help patients with macular edema, abnormal or severe astigmatism, dry eye and other corneal conditions achieve optimal vision. It also uses the latest treatments to slow the progression of myopia in young children.
Lindsay grew up in Baker, Oregon and graduated with honors in biology from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!). When she is not at Universal Eye Care, she enjoys outdoor adventures with her husband, young son and dog.
Dr. Patrick Swihart joined Universal Eye Care in the spring of 2021. Swihart graduated from Gonzaga University and attended Pacific University School of Ophthalmology in Forest Grove, Oregon. Dr. Swihart completed his optical training in the spring of 2020.

While in the Pacific, Dr. Swihart rotates at several clinics around Oregon, including Indian Health Services Community Center, Bend VA, Pacific University Vision Care Program and Teprick Custom Vision. Dr. Swihart has specialized training in ophthalmology, vision care, pediatrics, dry eye, and pre- and post-operative care.
