Long Island Fatal Car Accident – JERICO, NY – An accused drunk driver was arraigned Thursday afternoon after a crash on Long Island that killed two teenagers Wednesday night.
Two 14-year-old boys and two other teenagers were struck by a pickup truck traveling the wrong way on a major road in Jericho, Nassau County, police said.

The grieving families of the two youths who died and two others who were injured received an outpouring of support on Thursday. Hundreds of Roslyn residents packed a courthouse and lined up to await the arraignment of a driver who police say was drunk and speeding, driving erratically and failing to yield to juveniles.

Police said the 17-year-old driver tried to swerve to avoid the collision and was struck by the right side of the vehicle. Two 14-year-olds were sitting on the other side of the car. A 17-year-old boy, left, and a 16-year-old in the same car suffered internal injuries but are not expected to survive. Their car also hit another car with the mother and child inside.
Hundreds of relatives and friends of the victims packed the courtroom in Hampstead as they waited for the alleged drink driver to be charged.
“I feel like a bomb went off. We were all there. How did you recover from Roslyn Ronit Hakimi said.
“We were dead when we heard the news this morning,” said Shivali Walia, a friend of the victim.

Amandeep Singh, 34, said nothing as he was taken to court. Police say he caused the fatal crash by driving a pickup truck the wrong way on North Broadway in Jericho. Police said Singh tried to run away from the spot but was nabbed after some time.
“On that particular night, this suspect decided to drink and drive twice as fast as the law. It turns into a freeway and the kids don’t have a chance to go,” said Nassau County Police Capt.
A man at the Albertson home, where Singer lives with his wife and two children, declined to comment. Prosecutors told the judge he had faced felony charges twice as a juvenile.
“There’s no doubt that this is an absolute tragedy, but as I said in court, this is a law-abiding person,” said defense attorney James Kousulos.

The two remaining boys were eighth graders, best friends and tennis stars. At the age of 12, Hasenbein became the first person in the country.

Two teenagers were killed and two others were hospitalized in a late-night accident on Long Island that was allegedly caused by a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way.
The crash happened on North Broadway in Jericho around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Nassau County police said Amandeep Singh, 34, was driving southbound in the southbound lane when he struck an Alfa Romeo carrying four teenagers.
Two 14-year-old boys, Drew Hassenbein and Ethan Falkowitz, who were sitting in the back seat, died at the scene. The other boys, aged 16 and 17, were hospitalized with internal injuries and are recovering. The principal of Roslyn High School sent a note to parents Thursday morning, indicating that the two students who died were students at the school and advising how the students had trying to come to terms with the loss.

Hasenbein was a nationally ranked and highly ranked tennis player who was the star of the local high school team, although he only attended junior high school. “They have the brightest future,” friend Diana DeSanti said, adding, “They are the kindest people who ever lived.”
Meanwhile, Hasenbein and Falkowitz tennis coach, Jay Harris, described the boys, who have been playing tennis since five years, as “the best people” and “the best friends.” He didn’t make the varsity team until eighth grade.
After the boy’s car hit a truck, it hit another car carrying a 59-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy. They are treated and released.
