Elementary Charter Schools In Brooklyn – Today we are very excited to share that the “youngest” elementary school in our network – still known today as Windsor Terrace Elementary School – will be coming home for good this summer. Thus, the school will be renamed Brooklyn Prospect Sunset Yard Elementary School The name Sunrise Yard represents the unique community the school contributes and speaks to the unique blend of history and industry that defines its new neighborhood.
Sunrise Yard Elementary School is located at 341 39th Street in Brooklyn and will serve grades K-2 with 15 light-filled classrooms, a playground, cafeteria, library and multipurpose room that can be used for indoor games and meetings. Used to serve Some of this space will be developed after school starts this summer, as it grows to serve more students each year. There are also many parks and green spaces nearby that the school has explored for outdoor play options

Dot Day, held on December 10, was the highlight of the school year at Downtown Elementary School (DTES). Traditionally a celebration of Peter Reynolds’ book “The Dot,” the DTES team takes advantage of the International Baccalaureate Festival by presenting interdisciplinary concepts such as mathematics, music, theater, physical education and visual arts.
DTES Artist in Residence Anita Walsh has been introducing students to creativity at Prospect School for nearly 15 years. That is the dot day and its popularity with its students Anita says: “I learned more about the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and the study of primary colors. We embrace the day of celebration and use art to transform the school It creates a lot of positive energy for children. “This year’s festivities include a musical parade in the hallways; song and dance in the classroom; art, art and more art (!); a fun math problem; and a special study.
Brooklyn Hebrew Charter School Welcomes Children Fleeing Ukraine
Dot Day’s favorite tradition sees first graders read aloud from a variety of Dot books to their Kindergarten classmates. At the end of one study session, a 5th grader told her teacher, “This is one of the best things that ever happened to school. Kindergarten was great and fun.” Another student said: It is a pleasure to be with them.
Integrating art projects and curriculum into all aspects of education is a core philosophy for Anita and the DTES team: “For kids who are anxious or struggling, art can help calm them down. They can use their time and their art skills to do that. Calm yourself down while creating things that make them feel good.”
Students at Clinton Hill Middle School (CHMS) enjoy school for many reasons Liz Ryan, a new Prospect parent with two daughters at CHMS, said they were excited and happy to be there during their first week.
Getting her daughter teachers early had a noticeable impact: “My daughters love to learn, which is great! The girls come home happy and go to school happy. I can say that my children’s voices count. They are encouraged and allowed to advocate.” This kind of student autonomy is possible because of the community and trust environment that develops within the Prospect classroom.

At DTES, program director Andrea Molina sees to it that students, faculty and staff facilitate small group learning and provide extra structured support to children who need it. Andrea says: “Until I started working here, I never understood that a teacher must make every student really learn. It inspires me to look again in my own person. “
Andrea is responsible for family engagement and many complex operational tasks that allow her to collaborate with the diverse students, families and staff that make up DTES. “It inspires me to interact with people from different backgrounds. Everyone comes together as a team and supports each other.”

Opened in 2013, Prospect Brooklyn Elementary School boasts a diverse student body and staff (including many male teachers), an IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum, and a principal whose passion for education is contagious.
During our visit, children studying India as part of a virtual tour were “burned” by math problems: Kindergarteners made tissue paper marigolds, a popular flower in India, a 5-year-old reported; 2nd graders learn about Mahatma Gandhi’s life, paint a little Hindi design; And watch an iPad video about cinnamon and other spices grown in India Parents are also joining the virtual journey: Indian families taught a song to an Indian audience at a festival on campus, said Juman Saunders, a principal in Brownsville.
