Charter Middle Schools In Tucson – Teachers said teachers at North Base Charter School decided to unionize on Wednesday, making it the first school in Arizona.
The National Labor Relations Board’s vote on the campus at 5740 E. River Road was 34-17, according to a news release from the American Federation of Teachers.

According to the school’s website, the average salary for a teacher at North Base is $52,081. The Unified School District, meanwhile, reports that its average teacher salary is $53,735.
Report Cards For Southern Arizona Schools
The organization said in a news release that the North Base teacher “will enter into an initial agreement with the school administration to facilitate system change, organizational transparency, and more resources and time.”

According to the organization’s newsletter, the American Federation of Teachers represents more than 240 charter schools in 15 states and Washington, D.C., or about 12% of charter schools in the United States.
