San Diego firefighters are working on two cars involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 5 south of State Route 905 Friday morning. Authorities said three people were killed in the suspected crash around 10:25 a.m. Two of the victims were San Diego police officers.

Three people are dead, including two San Diego police officers, after a northbound driver in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in San Ysidro collided with an oncoming car Friday morning, authorities said.

The head-on collision took place shortly before 10.25am. on I-5 near State Route 905, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said. He said the car was going in the wrong direction and traveling at “high speed”.

Three bodies were found in the wreckage of the two cars: a woman in the Honda and a man and woman in a blue Ford Fusion sedan, Castro said. Ford is owned by the city of San Diego.

“It is very sad to report that two of our San Diego police officers have died as a result of this wrong-way crash,” San Diego Fire Department spokesman Jose Ysea told OnScene.TV.

San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit was among those who responded to the scene of the crash on the highway, about two miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border.

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn our two San Diego police officers whose lives were tragically taken this morning,” Gloria said.

“In the coming days, we will learn more about these officers who proudly wore the badge to keep us safe, and we will honor them for their service. I ask San Diego to keep the officers and their families in your prayers.”

Castro said he received a call shortly after 10:20 a.m. to report a wrong-way driver heading towards the motorway. Calls about the fire quickly followed. There were no survivors.

Hours after the accident, a convoy of more than a dozen motorcycle police drove the coroner’s van away from the scene.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Four people were ejected and killed in a Thanksgiving Day crash on State Route 94 just outside of downtown San Diego.

The single-car crash happened around 2:24 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. on eastbound SR-94 near Home Avenue and the State Route 15 interchange.

CHP officials at the scene said a black BMW M3 with five passengers was exiting downtown when the driver lost control, hit an embankment and then rolled several times. Several witnesses told CHP officials they believed the car reached speeds of at least 100 mph.

Four people were ejected into the lanes of the highway and the ABC has learned that at least one of the victims was hit by another passing vehicle.

The four evacuated victims were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services. CHP officials identified the victims as a 26-year-old La Mesa man (the driver); 35-year-old man from Chula Vista; 33-year-old woman; and a 20-year-old woman from National City.

A 22-year-old female passenger from San Marcos was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. CHP officials told ABC that the survivor, who was sitting in the right front passenger seat, was the only passenger wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Response to the incident forced the closure of eastbound SR-94 lanes in the immediate area, with traffic diverted onto southbound SR-95.

One person was killed Friday morning in a crash that closed part of State Highway 94 near downtown San Diego.

The incident was reported shortly after 4 a.m. when a Honda Accord and a Ford F-250 crashed on westbound SR-94 near northbound Interstate 5, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD). The crash and investigation prompted Caltrans to close the westbound lanes of SR-94, but by 7:30 a.m. the freeway was back open.

Sgt. Josh Nelson of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said his preliminary investigation showed the driver of the Ford was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck the rear of the Honda, causing the truck to overturn. Sgt. Nelson said the driver of the truck died at the scene and the driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries.

A man died Friday night when his car struck a tow truck on Interstate 5 in National City, according to the California Highway Patrol.

This happened around 8:10 p.m. on the south side of the freeway approaching Main and Division streets, according to a Highway Patrol incident log.

The tow truck came to rest on the right shoulder when a black Honda Accord struck it from behind, according to the CHP. The car got stuck and got stuck under the crane.

Footage from OnScene TV showed the tow truck driver appeared uninjured. He put out a small fire that broke out in the broken engine of the heavily damaged Honda sedan.

According to the CHP log, authorities at the scene quickly called for medical personnel and reported a death at the scene.

Caltrans San Diego tweeted around 8:40 a.m. that both right lanes of the freeway were closed due to the crash. The lanes were reopened around 11.15am.

SAN DIEGO – A 52-year-old woman was killed and four people were seriously injured early Tuesday morning in a crash on Interstate 5 in the Carmel Valley area, authorities said.

The accident happened shortly after 12:50 p.m. on I-5 southbound at Carmel Valley Road near State Route 56, California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro said.

A 42-year-old man driving a Dodge Magnum northbound in the southbound lanes crashed head-on into a Honda Civic, Castro said. After the first collision, a Ford pickup truck driven by a 32-year-old man hit the Dodge.

A 52-year-old female passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer said. His name has been withheld pending notification of family.

All three drivers and another passenger in the Honda were taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

All lanes of southbound I-5 were rerouted to SR-56 during the crash investigation, and the Carmel Valley ramp to southbound I-5 was closed. The lanes were reopened around 06:00.
