In 2023, Michigan enacted a red flag law, also known as an Endangered Persons Protection Order (ERPO), which prohibits the subject of the order from purchasing, carrying, possessing, or transporting firearms. . The purpose of ERPO is to prevent an impending disaster (for example, a school shooting). ERPO usually takes one year.
ERPOs can be initiated by family members, law enforcement officials, and health professionals. If approved by the court, the ARPO issue would be to surrender all firearms to law enforcement agencies for the duration of the order. The subject is also prohibited from obtaining a CPL.
As with guns, the CPL allows you to legally carry a Taser. A teaser cannot be run without CPL. However, remember that stun guns are illegal regardless of your CPL status.

A criminal record check is required for gun purchases. The process is completed by a Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealer who facilitates the transaction using the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
Michigan does not impose a specific waiting period for firearm purchases. However, as you need a current CPL, LTP and NICS check to buy a gun, a waiting period is effectively imposed. You can’t just buy a gun.
Michigan does not require firearms to be registered directly, but all gun sales require a firearm sales registration to be filed with the state police. This process is completed by the FFL who runs the process.
