I started writing my story more than once as many memories of our trip kept popping up in my mind. Mom and I live abroad, some might say that there is nothing for us but home. We started building our house at the end of 2017 on 3 hectares of land. Our house was finished in the spring of 2018. It took a lot, but with the help of my family, we did it. Having a dog was on Mom’s mind, but I assured everyone, it was far from my mind. We had four wheels, plenty of back roads, wooded areas, creeks, what more could you ask for. Mom and I exercise practically every day, take long walks and eat very healthy food. For our age, I was very happy with what we could do. Then it happened, I got hurt at work. It really messed up my back and also my knees. I kept trying to exercise but I was in pain. Mom sometimes walked alone and was fine with that. We live in a safe environment. As for me, I had the minutes to use part of my day. I’ll keep it short, but for some reason, one day, I decided to look up registered sex offenders in my state. I was surprised to find that it was more than a kilometer from our house. I could not immediately find enough information, except that the man stole and raped a woman. This was all the information I needed. I told mom you don’t go without a gun in your hand. He knew me, I think, for a short time, like 1-2 walks. Without saying a word to mom, I started thinking about getting a security dog. I quietly searched the internet, read about different breeds and found myself coming back to the German Shepherd. I knew nothing about working lines, importing dogs, different bloodlines, the list goes on. I continued to do my homework on German Shepherds, emailing and talking to many breeders. Time to tell mommy my thoughts. He couldn’t get the words out of his mouth fast enough, he was about to get a dog. I told him about my research, the different types of German shepherds, the price, and he was already on his phone looking for dog toys. We arranged to visit a breeding facility a few hours away. Something inside me told me that this was not the way. But we listened and learned. You can always learn from positive experience and negative experience. I found a place in Washington state that imports and sells adult German shepherds and also sells puppies. Early on in my quest to learn and discover everything I could about German Shepherds, I came across the Kraftwerk K9. Amy wasn’t sure about the investment I should take, so I searched, but every time, she called it my gut, but I realized that we should go through Kraftwerk. I called him 2-3 times to make sure my t was crossed and my points were there. I continued to send mom pictures of the puppies, but I started adding pictures and videos of the big dogs. Something inside pushed me to get an old dog. I weighed the pros and cons and was ready to get one. Amy needed more time. We always go with our gut and the feeling has to come from both of us. We saw a guy on Kraftwerk’s website and we both wanted him. I talked, I asked some questions, and I wanted to think about it for a few days. Well, you are sleepy – lose. Now back to the table. We were originally going to buy an older dog and we were not normal. We were going top shelf, top drawer, no holds barred. It was like BAM one day – look at these women, honey, this is a video, look at this guy, he’s one of a kind. I couldn’t dial the phone number fast enough and to top it off, it was working. I called Kraftwerk and spoke to Wayne Curry. He went through every imaginable detail of the men and women staring at us. They were his best imports and he told us more about his owners and his breeds in Germany. We were both taken like lightning. Holy cow! We bought not just one, but two puppies, and they will be going to Indianapolis that day. We don’t even have a place to put it, but they’re coming in two weeks. Amy bought some big boxes and we went to the Amish and got a 1300 square foot place. Made to our specifications and compatible. Let’s go out again. The “dog house” as we call it consists of 3 dog pens, they have an outside kennel and an inside area. The kennel has a large deck area with a small garage, office, dog bath upstairs, washer/dryer, bathroom and to top it all off, central air throughout the building. it is heated. We escaped, I tell you. Now it’s time for Seki and Yankee to go to their new home with us in Indiana. They were flying from Washington to Indy on a very bad day. The roads were already slick and calling for snow and dropping temperatures. None of this really mattered because the arrangements were made and we panicked. Due to my commitment to work, I was not able to go and pick up the dogs from the airport with mom. Mom quickly recruited my sister and her husband for the trip. The entire family watched the flight on the Internet all day. It was supposed to be a 5 hour flight. Mom took pictures throughout the day and sent me pictures of where the plane was in the sky and its altitude and miles per hour. My niece accompanied him to the airport, her job was to take pictures and send them to me at work. They both arrived safely and met in our garage when I got home. Amy prepared two large crates for each of them and by the time our garage warmed up, they were safe and sound and ready to be loved. Our new “dog house” has been delivered and baby is great to be on the way. After preparing, the work begins. We need to run wire, plumb, install insulation, drywall, heating and air, paint, flooring, trim, washer/dryer, dog baths, WOW! And hundreds of other things. About two months after we got Zikki and Yankee we were on the Kraftwerk website and there was this lady jet black V rating. He was in disbelief with every command that Wayne presented to him. Amy looked at me and knew I meant it with that look.
