Unprecedented need this year, OnPoint Community Credit Union today announced $1.65 million in expected donations this year to more than 280 nonprofit organizations serving Oregon and Southwest Washington. OnPoint’s donation year was in direct response to the region’s COVID-19 crisis, and celebrated passing the 400,000 member milestone and expanding its membership from 15 to 30 counties. Don OnPoint has focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, education, youth services, pandemic support and wildfire relief.

In preparation for the holiday season, OnPoint will also donate $75,000 to three nonprofit organizations focused on food and shelter: Raphael House of Portland, Transition Project and Union Gospel Mission. Each of these $25,000 donations will be used to support the organizations as they adapt their operations to safely meet the growing needs of the Portland Metro area. OnPoint will also donate $30,000 to organizations in other regions it serves, including Bend Food Project, Mission Eugene, Clark County Food Bank, Marion Polk Food Department and Yamhill Community Action Partnership.

Raphael House of Portland, one of the recipients of a $25,000 holiday donation from OnPoint, is a Portland-based emergency shelter and confidential resource center for survivors of domestic violence. There are 11 rooms in the shelter, including nine for families, and more than half of the residents are children. OnPoint’s donation will help provide 24/04/2009 support for survivors and their children at a time when domestic violence is at an all-time high. In addition to this recent donation, OnPoint is also partnering with Raphael House by giving back to its employees, sponsoring the nonprofit’s annual gala, and having employees volunteer their time for programs such as SWAG (Survivors are Worthy, Awesome and Gutsy), a survivor-led counseling group that meets weekly to develop life skills such as financial literacy.
“Survivors are protecting themselves from the virus and the effects of domestic violence, and they need our help more than ever,” said Emmy Ritter, Executive Director of Raphael House of Portland. “We are working tirelessly to connect families with life-saving resources and keep our shelter and hotline available 24/7. Support from generous individuals and partners like OnPoint Community Credit Union is critical to ensuring families remain safe, stable and supported. .”
Additional funds to support greater needs While OnPoint has a long tradition of supporting the community, having donated $1,052,836 in 2019 alone, the collaboration has significantly increased its charitable efforts in response to the COVID-19 credit. As the region continues to struggle with the health and financial implications of the virus, historic wildfires, racial injustice and social unrest, OnPoint has pledged an additional $500,000 to nonprofit organizations in the region in addition to its own already planned year. OnPoint’s annual holiday social giving campaign continues In addition to the donations announced today, OnPoint is launching its holiday social giving campaign on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. From December 1st to December 11th, OnPoint supporters can choose six organizations to receive donations from the credit union by following/liking OnPoint channels and sharing the nonprofits they support. Participants can vote through the credit union’s social media channels by tagging OnPoint and using the hashtag #OnPointGiving or commenting on one of its social media posts.
As OnPoint expands its footprint in Oregon and Southwest Washington, it will also continue to invest in these communities by donating to organizations in need, creating jobs, providing more member services, and fostering relationships with community partners.
