A Virginia man has died after the car he was driving crashed into a commercial traffic sign on a US Turnpike. Highway 17 near Elizabeth City on Tuesday.
Fatal Two Car Crash Being Investigated By State Police
The accident happened just before 11 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the turn lane and entering the interchange near the widened Halstead Boulevard. Authorities closed the southbound lanes to traffic until the scene was cleared.

Vehicle Overturned In Virginia Beach Crash; One Person Injured
DALE CITY, VA – Three people are dead after a four-vehicle crash on the I-95 Expressway Thursday afternoon. According to Virginia State Police, the crash happened when the sedan went the wrong way in the Express Lanes after a police chase.
The occupants of the sedan, Stephanie Morton and Tia Porter of Richmond, died in the crash. Kenneth Crosby, who was driving his Ford Ranger, was killed in a head-on collision when Morton and Porter’s sedan collided with him.
4:30 p.m. Thursday, a Virginia state trooper attempted to stop a 2008 Dodge Avenger traveling northbound on I-95 in Spotsylvania County. Officials said the Avenger was traveling 80 miles per hour and the speed limit was 65. Police identified Morton as the driver and Porter as the passenger.
According to state police, the Dodge refused to stop for police and the body began a chase. Two minutes later, troopers called off the pursuit due to heavy traffic on I-95. Dodge Avenger accelerates using the left shoulder of the highway.
Police Identify Man Killed In Route 29 Crash Near Centreville
Several state police officers positioned themselves north of the initial pursuit, preparing to stop the vehicle. Police said they resumed the pursuit after traffic on I-95 slowed.
When troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver of the Dodge Avenger exited I-95 onto the southbound express lane. The car went through three lighted gates at the entrance to the Express Lanes. Troopers did not follow the vehicle on the express lanes.
At milepost 155, near Dale City, a Dodge Avenger hit a southbound Ford Ranger pickup truck, officials said. The crash forced Kenneth Crosby’s truck off the highway and through a fence.
The Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Atlas also collided with the Dodge Avenger. The Avenger then caught fire.
Update: Victims Identified In Fatal Crash On I 95 Express Lanes
Three people lost their lives in this accident. Stephanie Morton, who was driving the Dodge Avenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. Tia Porter was a passenger in the Dodge Avenger. He was thrown from the car and also died at the scene. Authorities say Porter was not wearing a seat belt.
Kenneth Crosby, the driver of the Ford truck, also died at the scene. Police said he was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 23-year-old woman from South Carolina, suffered minor injuries in the crash. According to news reports, he was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 37-year-old man from Stafford, was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Two children who were passengers in the Volkswagen car were also treated at the scene of the accident. Two people involved in the crash were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Fairfax County police said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“It definitely breaks my heart and my heart goes out to the families of those who died and those who were injured,” said Joseph Tso, a teenager who lives nearby.
The crash happened at Braddock Road and Bradfield Drive. Braddock Road was closed in both directions at King David Boulevard while detectives investigated, but is now open.
“I was alone at home, I opened the window and suddenly there was a big crash,” said Tso.

Investigators determined the driver of a 2006 Lexus RX330I attempted to turn westbound onto Braddock Street from Bradfield Drive. The driver of the Lexus drove in front of the driver of a 2024 BMW X6 traveling eastbound on Braddock Road, causing a crash. There were five people in the Lexus car and two people in the BMW. They were all taken to the hospital. Three of them received injuries that were considered life-threatening.
One of the passengers in the Lexus, Yun Hui, 72, of Annandale, died at the hospital. The day after the accident, two more people died from their injuries. Police identified the victims as 63-year-old Hung Tang and 68-year-old Yang Zhou. Both were passengers in a Lexus RX330I at the time of the crash.
Four passengers suffered life-threatening injuries and were released from the hospital a short time later. Speed and alcohol are not factors in the accident.
Residents of this area say they are surprised to see this incident, but they say that many drivers have been driving at high speeds for a long time.
At Least One Person Dead In Crash On County Drive In Petersburg
“The speed limit on Braddock is 45, but a lot of times people don’t drive 45 on Braddock because it’s a major road and so you have to be very careful,” resident Tony Pham said.
“That stretch of Braddock Road in particular I know has high speeds all the time,” Tso said.
According to V-DOT data reviewed by: In 2023, there were four crashes near Braddock and King Davis Blvd., two involving injuries in the same block. In half a mile (Guinea on Rolling Road) there were 15 total accidents.
Pham said he has had some problems with the road and tries to take his time as he drives and turns in the area.

“I make a left turn on this road and sometimes I make a left turn on Braddock to go somewhere and I notice it’s very dangerous,” Pham said.
After seeing another crash, Pham and other neighbors said they were even more concerned. A man recalled being kicked out of his home for speeding.
“I’ve seen some people have close calls, I’ve even had close calls,” Pham said. – I will be more careful from now on.

A fatal multi-vehicle crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer caused delays on northbound Interstate 95 and exit 136 in Northern Virginia during the morning rush hour Wednesday.
Fatal Crash In Virginia Leaves 3 Dead
Two people lost their lives in the collision. According to police, the driver of the truck was injured and taken to the hospital.
