If you travel north from the airport, you will find yourself in Seattle, the Emerald City. Seattle is a must-see destination for art and culture lovers, the birthplace of musical genres and home to more than 20 live theater venues and the nation’s most popular arts district. Start your exploration in Pioneer Square with art galleries, author readings, famous buildings and fine dining. Then explore the Seattle Center’s Experimental Music Project (EMP), one of the only organizations of its kind dedicated to pop music. If you leave the airport and go south, you will be in the destination city of Tacoma. The western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Tacoma takes its name from the original, native name of Mount Rainier and was a busy port and industrial city in its early years. Since its renaissance began in the 1990s, Tacoma has become a thriving modern city full of culture, walkable neighborhoods, and reminders of its past. While you’re visiting, consider exploring the Museum District, including the Museum of Glass (and the glass bridge that connects it to the rest of the district), the Tacoma Museum of Art , and the Washington State Museum of History.

Southwest Meltdown: Southwest Airlines Apparently Cancels All Departing Southern California Flights Until Dec. 31

Southwest Airlines made headlines last week when it announced 30 new routes, adding new service to cities on its map.

The addition, with Southwest extending its booking calendar to August 4, 2024, may be the headlines, but it’s not the only one Southwest customers will see online next summer.

Southwest also outlined 66 other seasonal routes returning to their schedule this summer, with many of them replacing winter seasonal routes that stop when summer routes begin.

Southwest’s latest batch of seasonal summer routes set to return in 2024 include everything from short regional hops to cross-country flights. Some of the upcoming seasonal routes will have daily service, but most will only operate on weekends. Some are back on schedule after a short delay, as expected, while others are back after a long hiatus.

“This is exciting news,” Rhode Island Airports Corp. CEO Iftikhar Ahmed said in a statement praising Southwest’s seasonal service from Providence to Dallas and Denver.

With the Denver service, Providence joins two other Northeast locations—Albany, New York and Hartford, Connecticut—in serving the central Rocky Mountains. As one of the busiest airports in Southwest’s network, there are many connections from Denver to cities in the West.

Milwaukee will return seasonal service to San Diego. When it begins in June, the 1,739-mile Saturday service will make Milwaukee the longest regularly scheduled flight.

“We know Southern California is in high demand and these new flights will make it easier to enjoy the West Coast regularly from MKE,” airport president Brian Danczyk said in a statement “Milwaukee passengers who use these flights will help ensure the continuation of this service.”

And in Norfolk, Virginia, Southwest’s seasonal service to St. Louis lead to more service between the cities.

“Southwest Airlines carries a lot of passengers between the two cities, so nonstop service is a good fit,” said Charlie Braden, director of market development for Norfolk International Airport (ORF) in the statement to TPG. “We expect the customer base to continue to grow. “
