KCCU proudly donated $1,000 to support the American Heart Association (AHA) Children’s Heart Challenge. The funds are being used as part of the Adopt a School program and will greatly support the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Academy in the Comstock Public Schools.

The Kids Heart Challenge promotes heart-healthy behaviors when students commit to being more physically active, drinking more water and doing a good deed. The Kids Heart Challenge, formerly known as the Jump Rope for Heart Initiative, offers four activities to get students’ hearts pumping: jump rope, basketball, dance and an obstacle-style event while supporting the work of the American Heart Association.

Over the past year, with the Covid pandemic, schools have seen increased demand for PE equipment due to virtual learning and hygiene requirements. To further complicate matters, school equipment budgets continue to shrink. KCCU saw an opportunity to help solve this problem by sponsoring the Kids Heart Challenge Adopt a School and welcomed the Comstock Public School STEM Academy with a generous $1,000 donation to the American Heart Association. This money provides education on healthy behaviors as well as a gift certificate to the school to purchase exercise equipment of their choice.

“Kellogg Community Credit Union is honored to partner with the American Heart Association,” said Tracy Miller, KCCU Executive Director. “The Kids Heart Challenge helps the physical, social and emotional health of students. And in the wake of the pandemic last year, we understand how important it is to support our community’s students and schools. We hope that the new equipment that the STEM Academy will be able to purchase with our sponsorship will help students continue to practice heart-healthy behaviors.”
