Fatal Accident San Diego Today – CHP officials say a man survived a violent crash on SR-94 on Thanksgiving Day because he was wearing a seat belt.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Four people were ejected and killed in a Thanksgiving Day crash on State Route 94 near downtown San Diego.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a one-vehicle crash occurred around 2:24 a.m. on eastbound SR-94 near the Home Avenue and Interstate 15 interchange.

Involved In Deadly South Bay Car Crash

CHP officials at the scene said a black BMW M3 with five passengers was heading into town when the driver lost control, hit an embankment and overturned several times. Several witnesses told CHP officers they believed the car was going at least 100 mph.

Four people were thrown onto the freeway and at least one of the victims was hit by another vehicle, the ABC has learned.

The rescue workers said that the four people who were brought out died on the spot. CHP officials identified the victim as 26-year-old La Mesa (the driver). 35-year-old from Chula Vista; 33-year-old woman; and a 20-year-old woman from National City.

A 22-year-old female passenger from San Marcos was hospitalized with minor injuries. CHP officials told ABC that the only passenger who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash was sitting on the right passenger side.

The response to the incident forced the immediate closure of the eastbound lanes of SR-94, and traffic was diverted onto southbound SR-95.

While the investigation into the crash is in its early stages, CHP officials at the scene told ABC they believe the crash was alcohol-related. A Mini Cooper crashed on a freeway bridge, where a car shot from the overpass into another vehicle on SR-94, causing an explosion.

A driver died in a fire Saturday morning after their car went airborne on Interstate 94 near Golden Hill in San Diego, closing the lane for several hours.

At 8:51 a.m. Saturday, an unidentified driver of a Mini Cooper was driving west on SR-94 northbound to Interstate 15 when the car went off the road to the left and struck a concrete wall.

The car then veered to the right, struck another concrete wall and launched from the freeway crossing, according to the California Highway Patrol.

In flight, the Mini Cooper struck a shield from Caltrans and landed on the roof of a westbound 2015 Nissan Murano on SR-94 before exiting the roadway and becoming fully engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Mini Cooper died and two passengers in the Nissan Murano were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, the CHP said.

The San Diego CHP office is currently investigating the crash and it is not yet known if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

“I was in my house and I heard a loud noise like tires screeching on the sidewalk,” said Michael Comfort, who was near the crash when it happened.

Comfort added that he saw firefighters use the jaws of a live appliance to pull a dead man out of one of the cars.

“I saw them push the hood out of the car and saw them in the vehicle that was in the middle of the road. There was a person trapped in the vehicle and they actually did CPR on the person trying to get them out of the car,” Comfort said.

SAN DIEGO – A 52-year-old woman was killed and four others were seriously injured in a crash early Tuesday on Interstate 5 in the Carmel Valley area, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro said the crash happened just after 12:50 a.m. on southbound I-5 at Carmel Valley Road near State Route 56.

One person died early Friday morning in a crash that overturned a portion of State Route 94 near downtown San Diego.

Just after 4 a.m., a Honda Accord and a Ford F-250 collided westbound on SR-94 near northbound Interstate 5, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD). The crash and investigation forced Caltrans to close the westbound lanes of SR-94, but the freeway reopened around 7:30 a.m.
