Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash in the eastbound lanes of I-10 at Dominion Drive around 6:00 a.m. on May 22nd.

According to witnesses, the 18-wheeler crashed into a Ford Fiesta, which stopped on the side of the road with damaged lights. The driver of the Fiesta, a 46-year-old woman from San Antonio, died at the scene.

The motorcyclist continued on before abandoning his 18-wheeler at Bowie and Crockett streets in downtown San Antonio.

“The driver of the car did not stop at the scene,” San Antonio police Doug Green told News4SA. “I want this 18-wheeler to go about 20 miles around town.”

In the accident, the front of the car was badly damaged and parts of the Ford Fiesta were under the rear wheel.

Justin Antoine Jackson was arrested hours after the accident and charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death. A 29-year-old California man was there when the jacket was found, but he told police he was driving and that the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash had fled on foot. Jackson also provided police with a description of the “suspect.”

After talking to the trucking company, investigators eventually identified Jackson as the driver of the 18-wheeler. After he was arrested, he told police he swerved to avoid it to another car and he didn’t see the Ford Fiesta until late at night. He allegedly left the scene of the accident to chase the car in question and did not realize the Ford Fiesta was stuck.

Jackson learned of Falkenberg’s death only after watching the news, and later contacted his employer and his wife, but not 911. The affidavit states police, Jackson noted that the stay was “common sense, but he said he was instructed by his employer to lie to the police.”
