I live in Des Moines with my husband TJ, son Theo, daughters Drew and Frankie, and dog, Murphy. Outside of family and work, my other true love is running. Although I like to say that I “run for fun”, the truth is that I am very competitive and I like to push myself. I have run over seven marathons and have a personal best time of 2:44:06 for 26.2 km. My biggest running highlight to date was qualifying for and competing in the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials. Joining the best female marathon runners in the United States was an experience I will always cherish.

I’m an Iowa native. I thought I would live forever in Northeast Iowa until life brought me to Des Moines for law school in 2013. I thought I would be an only child until my mother remarried and I became a sister to my youngest sister and two older sisters. brother (we decided from the start that there were no “steps” in our family). On Christmas Day 2015, I received the name I am most proud of to date: my aunt. My nephew is the center of our blended family and distracts me from family-related events and gatherings during my free time. When I no longer live in Cedar Rapids, you can often find me there, in our family home, or my father who, after 27 years, still obliges enthusiastically when I ask him to teach me the art – playing the guitar.
I graduated from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Paralegal Certificate, then from the University of Iowa in Iowa City with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science, and from Drake University Law School in Des Moines and my jury. doctorate. I was admitted to practice law in Iowa in 2017. My commitment to the legal profession has spanned nearly a decade and my commitment to helping others has spanned a lifetime.

Growing up in the metro area, the only time I strayed from my roots was with the Hawkeyes while attending the University of Iowa, where I earned a B.B.A. and Marketing. Growing up, I had a passion for justice and supporting those less fortunate. After graduating from Iowa, this interest brought me home to Drake University School of Law, where I received my J.D. degree. and my MBA with honors. During my time in law school, I served on the Drake Law Review Editorial Board and was selected by my peers to be one of ten students inducted into one of the Order of the Bar’s National Honors.
Growing up, my parents emphasized the importance of family and community. They taught me that I can find common ground and grow as an individual by being caring and considerate by learning from others. Who would have thought that sharing a bathroom with three sisters would be part of that education! I believe that everyone should have a strong support system to make them feel valued. I live in Beaverdale with my partner Cory and our golden retriever, Bird. When I’m not in the office, you can find me drinking oat milk at Friedrichs, crushing Thursday night junkies at Hall, and enjoying the excitement of discovering vintage wines, or taking a family trip to Gray Lake.
After growing up all over the Midwest, I decided to call Iowa my “home.” Ashley Tollakson and I have worked as administrative assistants since January 2017.
