Several Factors To Consider When Dividing Marital Property In A Divorce

I live in Des Moines with my husband TJ, son Theo, daughters Drew and Frankie, and dog, Murphy. Outside of family and work, my other true love is running. Although I like to say that I “run for fun”, the truth is that I am very competitive and I like to push myself. I have run over seven marathons and have a personal best time of 2:44:06 for 26.2 km. My biggest running highlight to date was qualifying for and competing in the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials. Joining the best female marathon runners in the United States was an experience I will always cherish.

My favorite question to ask clients is, “What are your overall goals?” I believe it is important to set goals at the beginning, not only about what you want to achieve but also how you want to maintain integrity throughout the process.

I’m an Iowa native. I thought I would live forever in Northeast Iowa until life brought me to Des Moines for law school in 2013. I thought I would be an only child until my mother remarried and I became a sister to my youngest sister and two older sisters. brother (we decided from the start that there were no “steps” in our family). On Christmas Day 2015, I received the name I am most proud of to date: my aunt. My nephew is the center of our blended family and distracts me from family-related events and gatherings during my free time. When I no longer live in Cedar Rapids, you can often find me there, in our family home, or my father who, after 27 years, still obliges enthusiastically when I ask him to teach me the art – playing the guitar.

I graduated from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Paralegal Certificate, then from the University of Iowa in Iowa City with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science, and from Drake University Law School in Des Moines and my jury. doctorate. I was admitted to practice law in Iowa in 2017. My commitment to the legal profession has spanned nearly a decade and my commitment to helping others has spanned a lifetime.

I worked at a law firm during my undergraduate and graduate studies. During that time, I helped people who were struggling, providing advice from a place of compassion and celebrating the success of clients who became the best version of themselves as they worked hard to overcome their adversity. . I want you to know that I will sit with you and listen. I will give you support and good advice, and I will be there to celebrate your success.

I try to help others navigate our legal system, while providing certainty to those in this uncertain—and sometimes difficult—time of family transition.

Des Moines is, and will always be, my home. Growing up in the metro area, the only time I strayed from my roots was with the Hawkeyes while attending the University of Iowa, where I earned a B.B.A. and Marketing. Growing up, I had a passion for justice and supporting those less fortunate. After graduating from Iowa, this interest brought me home to Drake University School of Law, where I received my J.D. degree. and my MBA with honors. During my time in law school, I served on the Drake Law Review Editorial Board and was selected by my peers to be one of ten students inducted into one of the Order of the Bar’s National Honors.

Growing up, my parents emphasized the importance of family and community. They taught me that I can find common ground and grow as an individual by being caring and considerate by learning from others. Who would have thought that sharing a bathroom with three sisters would be part of that education! I believe that everyone should have a strong support system to make them feel valued. These core values make me an advocate for my clients.

I live in Beaverdale with my partner Cory and our golden retriever, Bird. When I’m not in the office, you can find me drinking oat milk at Friedrichs, crushing Thursday night junkies at Hall, and enjoying the excitement of discovering vintage wines, or taking a family trip to Gray Lake.

After growing up all over the Midwest, I decided to call Iowa my “home.” Ashley Tollakson and I have worked as administrative assistants since January 2017. I enjoy welcoming clients to our office and take pride in providing a safe, calm, and trustworthy environment for clients. It is incredibly rewarding to be at the forefront of our customers’ growth and evolution. I also help with administrative tasks such as client scheduling and billing.

Above all, family is the most important thing to me. I’m a big believer in taking time to enjoy the little things because life is short. Outside of work, I try to relax and spend time with my husband, Alex, our son, and our two dogs. We love finding new parks and trails to explore, but our favorites are Jester Park, Raccoon River Park, and Greenwood Park.

Although divorce is difficult, I can’t imagine doing it any other way. The last thing I want to do is go to court. To this day, my ex-husband and I have a very respectful relationship, and we both give 100% credit to my cooperation with Ashley in the legal process of the relationship. Tiffany

Ashley helped me through a terrible time of loss in my life. My marriage died. He helped me understand my choices and gave me time to come to terms with my heart. He did a great job helping me understand the law and also think through the emotional and financial consequences of my actions. Ashley is one of the strongest people I know. He knows how to hold you in your suffering and protect you. He never shared more than what was needed to reduce my weight, but he was responsible throughout the process. I will be forever grateful for his steady, loving hand. Jennifer B.

I enjoyed working with Ashley. He really listens and cares about his customers; and ready to fight for whatever it takes. He really helped me with a deal that gave me peace of mind, flexibility and most importantly; protection for my family. He was very organized and took the time to explain the process to me, as well as providing documentation and answers to any questions along the way. Gwen P.

The service I received from Ashley Tollakson and everyone at Tollakson Law was excellent. Experience in dealing with difficult situations is reflected in the results achieved. I highly recommend this team of professionals to anyone needing representation in a family law matter. John M.

I recommend Ashley, Guardian Ad Litem! Finding the right Guardian Ad Litem to help you through family court can be difficult. I am a single African/American man with a complicated child custody case. The bottom line is that family court can be scary and unpredictable. Ashley and I met at her office. Ashley spent about an hour listening to me explain my situation, answering my questions and making suggestions about how we should proceed. I took my daughter to Ashley’s office. Ashley talked to my daughter (without me). When it was finished – they both came out of the office smiling broadly. Throughout this trial, Ashley represented my daughter very well! He talked to my daughter, wrote a very nice letter to the judge, and said nice things about my daughter. We are very clear and affectionate. She explained my daughter’s background, current family life and future goals and abilities. Child support can be overwhelming, frustrating, and scary. Shley has our best interests in mind—as people and as customers. Throughout the process Ashley did everything she could
