Fatal Car Accident New Mexico – Albuquerque, NM. – Police say a man ran a red light Sunday evening, causing a fatal five-vehicle crash in downtown Albuquerque.
Nicole Zamora is accused of running a red light while driving her SUV east on Lomas Boulevard at Second Street — and hitting a northbound car at Second Street on a green light. The vehicle was struck by three vehicles stopped at a red light on westbound Lomas.

When officers arrived, investigators said they saw Zamora crawling out of his SUV when it overturned in the crash.
What To Do After A Car Accident In New Mexico?
The driver of the car died on the spot. Their passenger went to hospital in critical condition.
A witness told police that Zamora ran a red light at Sixth, Fifth and Fourth streets before the crash.
Police towed the SUV and found a wallet on the floor that investigators said contained Zamora’s driver’s license. They also obtained a search warrant and recorded information that the SUV had accelerated from 90 km/h to 110 km/h at the time of impact, all within a speed of 50 km/h.
Investigators say they have obtained video footage from the real-time crime center that corroborates the evidence found. They say alcohol wasn’t a factor either. On February 9, 2024, at approximately 5:21 p.m., New Mexico State Police, Colfax Sheriff’s deputies, and Raton Fire and Emergency Services responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a commercial. motor vehicle and a Dodge Ram pickup in Colfax County east of Raton.
Travel In New Mexico: Most Dangerous Days
Preliminary investigation shows that a 2022 Ram truck driven by Custin Martin De La Torre, 41, of Florida, was traveling eastbound on US Highway 64/87, near mile marker 355, when the emergency lights were activated. . For unknown reasons, the truck was struck from behind by a 70-inch truck driven by Talon Green, 29, of Texas.
Four of the truck’s five passengers were taken to MCMC in Ratan. A child in the pickup suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner’s office. The driver of the semi-truck was also transported to MCMC with minor injuries.
US 64/87 eastbound was closed while state police investigated the crash. At one point, traffic was diverted to an intersection just west of the crash, but the volume of semi-trucks made it so difficult that Colfax SO officers closed eastbound 64/87 into the Raton city limits until traffic cleared again .
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor, according to state police. The seat belts were all worn and the child was in a car seat. The crash is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.

On September 20, 2024, we told you about an accident on I-40 eastbound near the Big Eye. Throughout the evening we shared updates, including photos from the NM DOT camera, to inform residents and stranded motorists of the closure.
The Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Department responded to the scene when the crash occurred at 4:40 p.m. APD and police officers began blocking all lanes of I-40 eastbound (EB) and directing traffic from I-40 to Exit 159A. Multiple vehicles were involved in the accident, which resulted in one fatality. The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) later took over the investigation into the death.
Fatal County Line Crash Still Under Investigation
This morning, NMSP released preliminary data from their investigation. According to initial reports from NMSP, Chamar Gallegos, 26, of Albuquerque, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic eastbound on I-40 toward Big Eye to reach northbound I-25. Traffic in the area was slow, but for an unknown reason Gallegos failed to slow down and struck the rear of a 2019 GMC SUV, causing a chain reaction involving three more cars.
NMSP said Gallegos, who was not wearing his seat belt properly, suffered serious injuries and later died at a local hospital. Five cars were involved in the accident, but no one was injured. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Authorities closed the eastbound lanes of I-40 for about four hours from 4:40 p.m. to 8:35 p.m. NMSP is investigating this fatal accident.
