A concerned Iowa Standard reader sent us some glossy photos of herself in front of the Social Security building in Des Moines on Friday.

According to the person who published the photos, at around 13:15 the bus stopped in front of the building and several Hispanics got off the bus.
Ever since news broke of a planeload of illegal immigrants arriving in Des Moines earlier this year, we’ve been getting pictures of mysterious buses cruising around the state.
We called the Public Safety office in Des Moines to see what information we could get about the situation.
The recording played when the office is called reminds people that the office offers personal services by appointment only in limited and serious cases.

We spoke to the person in charge of a bus full of people in the office on Friday afternoon. All they could say was that they had a date. They did not say how many people were stopped or how many were found.
I asked if the office allowed personal services by appointment only in limited and essential cases, as the phone recording indicated.
“There are some people, right, and there may be people, no matter where they are from, who we can say have never had a Social Security card, and we need to see their official documents, and we need to see them in person,” he said.
