KCCU donated $1,000 to support the American Heart Association (AHA) Children’s Heart Challenge. The funds are being used as part of the Affirm Schools program and will greatly benefit Comstock Public Schools’ STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Academy.

The Kids’ Heart Challenge encourages heart-healthy behaviors as students pledge to be more active, drink more water and do good deeds. The Kids’ Heart Challenge, formerly known as the Jump Rope for Heart initiative, supports the American Heart Association and offers four activities to help them do their job: jump rope, basketball, dance and a style event of the obstacle course.

Over the past year, due to the Covid pandemic, schools have seen an increase in requests for PE equipment due to virtual learning and hygiene requirements. To make matters worse, school equipment budgets continue to shrink. KCCU saw an opportunity to address this issue by sponsoring the Adopt a School Kids Heart Challenge, where they donated $1,000 to the American Heart Association at the Comstock Public Schools STEM Academy. In addition to healthy behavior education, the money will also provide a gift certificate to purchase selected gym equipment for the school.
