This car has hidden your selling point. If you want to email it to a customer, you have to disclose it. Inexplicably clean classic trucks occasionally come up for sale and demand everyone’s attention. Such is the case with this 1997 Ford F-350 dump truck at Gateway Car Connection, a Missouri dealership known for its incredibly well-preserved diesel pickup trucks with previous emissions. It’s the perfect spec – a single-cab SUV with a 7.3-litre Power Stroke engine and five-speed manual transmission – and it’s as clean as it gets with 1,584 miles. That alone is enough to get the internet talking, but what most people can’t wrap their heads around is the $84,800 price tag.
It is the new high water mark for vintage Ford bodies in the collector car market. Not for auction, but to give a frame of reference, the most expensive F-series from 1992-1997. On Bring a Trailer it sold in March for $59,280. This pickup beats that truck not only in price but also in specs and condition because that truck had a 460 cubic inch gas V8 and about 60,000 miles.
Anthony Clavina, owner of Gateway Car Connection and Power Stroke, gave me a truck story that is as mysterious as you’d expect.

“Basically, the truck was ordered by a guy who owned a Ford franchise, and he owned a big Ford dealership,” Klavina explained. – He ordered and transported a load of gravel in 1999, and that was the only thing that was in the trough.
Well, except for the standard plastic-wrapped wheels stored in the back. The original owner also had a tire shop, so he ordered the welding wheels and installed them on site. It goes well with just the right amount of style to go with the truck’s bright red interior.
“He did this load of gravel, but every time he took it to his Ford shop and serviced it,” Klavina continued. “It wasn’t a truck sitting around, even though it didn’t drive a lot of miles. It was only driven occasionally.”
The truck retained its original certificate of origin until 2020, when it was named for the first time. Klavina says he was in contact with the previous owner for about a year and a half before he bought it. It came from New York, but was stored in a climate-controlled garage, so you won’t find a water stain on the undercarriage. It is very clean.

Now, all of this may be enough to make you drool, but does it justify the massive asking price? You will get a different answer from everyone you ask, but I think it would be best to call an expert. I spoke with Paul Rutledge, co-owner of Complete Performance – one of the most popular aftermarket companies in the OBS Ford community.
“It’s a problem for me because I remember when it was $5,000 for a really nice one; now it’s $35,000 for a really nice one,” Rutledge said. “But we also like it because it expands the market, if you will. More and more people are starting to say, ‘Hey, we have to make product ‘cause people are enjoying it now.’
As Rutledge said, the value of these trucks continues to increase. Hammer prices have soared along with the rise of online car auctions, which continue to bring horrific examples to the surface. It would be wrong to say there are another hundred of these time capsules scattered around the country, but ever since collectors started seeing how much money they bring in, they’ve dusted off their pride and joy to hit the block.
“It’s like a brickyard, so it was a work truck that was never used, like our chip truck,” Rutledge added. He is talking about a very low mileage OBS Ford that has barely 900 miles on the clock. “It has Weld Typhoons, it’s period correct, it has a red interior that you can’t find anymore. When you go to the dealer, you can order a black truck or a gray truck with a black interior or a gray finish. “

He continued, “Because Anthony got it, I feel like the price is right.” “Anthony also understands the market; otherwise he wouldn’t be in the business he is in. He wants to offer clean, low-mileage trucks to people who appreciate clean, low-mileage trucks.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m just an ordinary truck driver from the Ozarks – I don’t have a lot of money – but I don’t agree that this is out of my hands either. If I can’t take it, neither can a bunch of guys who will immediately lift this crap six inches and replace it with a Cummins 12-valve.
There is no way I can convince anyone that this Ford is worth more than new. To be honest, I wouldn’t blame you for buying a 2023 Super Duty, especially if you have to use it. Scratch that – if you need something for work, buy a new one. This is a collector’s item, no longer a tool, and is one of the few examples left that way.
“I hope Anthony gets every penny he’s asking for that truck,” Rutledge concluded. -I think it’s worth it.
