Iowa Health Systems Des Moines Ia – Graham Construction has been a trusted partner of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines since 1981. Our latest joint project is the emergency department at IMMC and Blank Children’s Hospital. This multi-phase expansion and renovation project is currently under construction at the heart of the hospital campus. The new 40,860 square foot addition includes a 4,800 square foot basement for mechanical needs. This annex is hosted by IMMC’s General Emergency Department, Level 1 Trauma Center and Ambulance Garage. The annex also has a CATH lab and two X-ray rooms. The pediatric emergency department, medical decision department, and emergency department took temporary space in the new annex, while the 8,800-square-foot emergency department was renovated into rooms for dressing and treatment and staff offices. The major challenges of this project were 24-7 patient and community access, infection control and patient safety.
