Ural With Sidecar
MSRP is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. MSRP does not include taxes, license, registration, delivery, setup and installer options. Retailer prices may vary.
Shipping – There is a flat delivery fee, sometimes called a destination fee. Each seller must pay this fee because we have to ship the bikes from our store in New Jersey to each location. This amount is $695. Dealers cannot order bikes out of stock; everyone, including New Jersey dealers, must pay $695. Sellers in Alaska and Hawaii have to pay more. The same rules and fees apply in Canada – a flat fee of $695 CAD from port to dealer (some remote locations have additional charges for destination, please contact your local dealer ). If you ask your salesperson to reduce this commission, know that it will come out of his pocket.
CARB Tax – There is a $300 tax for optional equipment on California registered motorcycles. This is necessary to meet the country’s environmental needs.
Assembly cost (or sometimes called “setup”) – The Ural comes in a crate with a side-car split to save space. Dealers receive these boxes and must complete assembly and configuration according to a specific checklist. On average, the arrangement takes 6.5 hours. It usually takes the dealer about a day to set up the Ural. Dealers pay their own mechanics to assemble the bikes. These costs are usually passed on to customers.

Russian Ural Sidecar Motorcycle Is Unrefined Fun
The appearance of IMZ-Ural is related to the events on the Eastern Front during the Second World War. The Soviet Union was preparing for a possible war against Nazi Germany. Joseph Stalin ordered the Soviet army to prepare on all possible fronts, including ground forces that would defend the Soviet Union from German tank and infantry attacks. Movement was especially stressed after the Soviet Union saw the results of the Blitzkrieg in Poland.
A meeting was held at the USSR Ministry of Defense to develop a motorcycle suitable for the Red Army. The Red Army wanted to upgrade their equipment after the end of the Winter War with Finland. The motorcycles used so far were unsatisfactory; their technology was outdated and their work was insufficient to withstand the harsh climate and geography of Russia.
According to official data, after a long discussion, the BMW R71 motorcycle was recognized as meeting the requirements of the Red Army as much as possible. Five units were secretly acquired by Swedish intermediaries. Soviet engineers in Moscow scrapped five BMWs, replicated the BMW design in every detail, and made molds and dies to produce the engines and gearboxes in Moscow. At the beginning of 1941, Stalin showed prototypes of the Dnepr M-72 motorcycle, which decided to launch mass production. One of the original BMW cars, bought by Swedish consultants, has been preserved and is on display at the IMZ-Ural factory museum. After World War II, the plant expanded, and in 1950 the 30,000th motorcycle was produced.
Initially, the URAL was designed exclusively for the military. In the late 1950s, the KMZ plant in Ukraine took over the task of supplying the military, while the Irbit Motorcycle Plant (IMZ) focused on the production of bicycles for domestic consumers. In the late 1950s, all production at the plant was shifted to non-military products. In 1957, the M-72 production lines were sold to the People’s Republic of China.
