Custom Trike Motorcycles For Sale – If I asked you to name a trike, I think you would say something like a Can-Am Spyder or a Harley Freewheeler, maybe a Morgan 3 Wheeler or a Polaris Slingshot. Maybe he has some strange Chinese games. What I didn’t expect to see at the North American International Auto Show was a brand new three-sport model from a German company I didn’t even know existed. Rewaco built cars with big tires and powered by Mitsubishi engines that used to power Smart Forfours. Let’s take a look.
This summer I gave it some love. Three-wheelers are sometimes the red-headed children of the motorcycle world. For years I have seen debates about whether trikes are motorcycles and what is the point of buying a two-wheeler or a car. I think trikes have their place in the world, especially if you’ve lost your balance, are injured, or just don’t like balance and lean. At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, I found trikes that looked like custom builds, but were actually from a real company that had been around for thirty years!
Custom Trike Motorcycles For Sale
When I saw the brand name for these trikes, Rewaco, I expected a small American outfit with a special name. But no. Rewaco set up shop in Germany in 1990 as a manufacturer of special technical models. The company powered its early buildings with air-cooled Volkswagen engines before moving to larger Harley-Davidson factories. In 2005, Rewaco replaced the Harley engine with a 1.6-liter Ford Zetec engine. (You can find it in the off-market Focus and other Fords).
Big Wheel All Grown Up
This is when Rewaco first tried to enter the American market. Apparently, Rewaco faced many roadblocks, including the fact that neither the EPA nor the NHTSA can approve trikes, and finally got the idea to import them. Rewaco kept trying to enter the US until 2008 when the idea was shut down.
Long after Rewaco had given up on the idea of bringing in trikes, Shaun Cady and his father Doug, owners of Trike Traders in Lake Alfred, Florida, contacted Rewaco about an interest in bringing in trikes. Rewaco informed father and son that cars must pass EPA and NHTSA inspections before they can be sold in the United States. Due to the recession, Rewaco itself did not have the money to consolidate its strategies in America. Meanwhile, Rewaco and Trike Traders shelved the idea.
In 2013 the conditions were improved for Rewaco to test. The company found a distributor in Canada and later that year Rewaco received the necessary certificates to import cars into the United States. That year the Rewaco RF1 came to America. At that time, Rewaco was proud of German engineering and quality, sports cars, and an American engine with a 1.6 liter Ford Zetec that produced 140 HP. Other notable features of the trike include a trunk, a fuel tank large enough to travel over 400 miles on the highway, and a comfortable four-seater thanks to the independent A-arm suspension.
Currently, Rewaco sells a variety of trikes in the US and all come with the Mitsubishi 4A91T 1.5-liter turbo four that produces 140 HP. Europe gets two more engines, a Mitsubishi 1.5-liter four producing 110 hp and a turbo variant with 177 hp. This engine comes from the Mitsubishi i-4A family, which is the Mitsubishi Lancer, the original Smart Forfour, and the Mitsubishi Colt. Currently, the engine is used in many Chinese cars and a few Mitsubishis in the Asian market.

Rewaco says it has targeted a number of people. The target audience includes middle-aged men and women, affluent car collectors, non-cyclists, and people who might not fit into a traditional bike. Rewaco also targets those who want to take long road trips, people who need more cargo space, and people who want to carry more than one passenger or who want to bring a passenger and a pet. In fact, Rewaco’s customers are not just ordinary motorists.
Dealer Rewacos had two models on display in Detroit, the RF1-ST-3 and the Pur3 Touring. Let’s take a look at the RF1-ST-3. This is one of the new versions of the RF1 that Rewaco first brought to America a decade ago. All Rewaco products in the United States come with a 1.5-liter turbo four from Mitsubishi that produces 140 HP. Rewaco claims a good 60 mph time of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 110 mph. It is mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
The list of available features is extensive and includes emergency braking, LED headlights, three seats, folding front seats, cruise control, camera, ABS, first aid kit and more. Options include a roll cage, wing, additional headrests, and a 10-inch frame extension if that’s not enough. Speaking of height, these trays are 12 feet tall and weigh over 1,300 pounds empty. They carry 10 liters of fuel and weigh about 600 kilograms.
Fits the rear wheel hub. You get 200/50R17 tires as standard, but larger wheels like 305/30R19 are available.

Also on display is the Pur3 Touring. It doesn’t have three seats, but it comes with a large cockpit with a digital display, air conditioning and plastic windshield. It also comes with packages like additional operating system configuration, USB connectivity, limited warranty, and more.
No matter which Rewaco you get, the trike has a very large trunk and the body itself is made of fiberglass. Rewaco says all of its trikes can be upgraded to include windshields, windshields and speakers. So, just choose your favorite body shape and stack the options. The company offers these letters in many different colors, including two tones and yes, you get a custom one. These two heavy commuters are not Smart Fortwo after all.
The cheapest Rewaco Pur3 Classic, two-seater costs $ 37,400 It has all the standard equipment mentioned above, chrome finish, and 17-inch wheels. The top of the line is the $47,731 RF1 GT-Touring, which has all the aforementioned Touring features and almost every option like a black frame, two-tone paint, cooling system, gloves and wing. Between the Pur3 Classic and the RF1 GT-Touring there are several major changes to mix and match options such as fairings, seats and paint. Most 98 Rewacos sold in the US today are under $50,000.
Due to the high price, I’m not entirely sure that Rewaco will have many fans. Someone looking for a machine to ride when they lose their balance can buy the more affordable Can-Am Spyder F3 for $22,099 and call it a day. A woman who dips her toes into the motorcycle world and doesn’t even like two wheels can follow such a path. Not to mention affordable Harley trikes, Honda Gold Wings convertibles, and the like. There are also many beautiful bikes and cars that you can buy just one of these.

That said, I’m glad they’re there. Rewaco trikes are like the usual ones you see on Facebook and YouTube, but you can buy them from the factory! The big wheels are ridiculous, the length is ridiculously long, and I like the idea of someone actually trying a family ride from Rewaco. If you have the kind of money that Rewaco wants, you’ll probably look like a big fat kid when you roll your big wheel down the highway. It’s stupid, but somehow I respect you.
