The case, which aired on truTV’s Speeders Fight Back 2009, was another victory for Gold, which claims a 97 percent success rate. The firm helped develop a large-scale, highly publicized approach to fighting traffic tickets, an area virtually untouched by any attorney when Gold emerged in the late ’80s. Ticket Clinic now employs 300 people and has 26 locations in Florida and ten in California.

By selling the craft, advocates like Gold say they’ve empowered drivers of all incomes and backgrounds to fight fraudulent tickets and DUI arrests. Gold’s company has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars lobbying against policies that put a strain on drivers’ pockets, such as red light cameras. “We’re on the front lines of traffic laws, fighting laws that we believe are illegal or unfair,” says Gold.

However, Piletiklinik’s rapid growth, both at the state level and due to insufficient oversight within the company, also made it ripe for abuse.
The FDLE is now investigating allegations that the company’s instructors took money in exchange for fake driving school licenses. A former employee sued over the same allegations, saying he warned Gold about problems and was ignored. Other workers who spoke to New Times described a hostile work environment that led to mistreatment and a culture of fear. And outside critics say the firm has used its large profits to tilt judicial races in favor of judges more sympathetic to traffic violations.
“I have great company. We do a lot of work for people,” says Gold, who denies allegations of impropriety. “I take every employee’s claim very seriously… As far as I know, most of our employees are really satisfied.
But the clinic’s founder also earned a personal reputation for questionable behavior. In recent years, Gold has waged a legal war against a strip club over a $19,000 tab, been arrested for domestic violence — a charge that was later dropped — and fined by a Florida bar for some of his business practices.

Gold disagrees with that criticism and says he wakes up every morning to the best customer service. “There aren’t many lawyers who will get out of bed for $69.95,” he says. “People love us, we do a great job.”

It was 1988 and legal advertising, especially in DUI cases, was almost unheard of. But just a few years out of law school, Gold landed Ticket Clinic spots on the air. This approach worked. it has already expanded to four offices in Dade and Broward within a year.
From the next table, White pressed his suspicions on him. “As much as you’re going to,” he said, “you’re going to end up in a situation… where you end up with somebody killing somebody. How do you sleep at night?”
The trial exchange was an early look at Piletiklinik’s future controversies and its successful formula. At just 31 years old, Gold was one of the first lawyers in the country to turn traffic tickets and DUIs into cash cows. Gold defied social norms and made old-school lawyers cringe, but the same classmates who mocked him were quickly silenced when the millions came.
Gold was born and raised in Great Neck, Long Island, two generations after his grandparents touched soil on Ellis Island, Eastern Europe. His father, Gerald, grew up during the Great Depression and as a child sold apples on the street corner to earn money for the family.

Golden childhood was much more comfortable. His mother had a master’s degree in sociology, his father a PhD in economics and statistics, worked as a trader and taught at Pace University. In 1959, his father wrote the best-selling book Modern Commodity Futures Trading, which the New York Times called “the industry’s bible.” Mark, the second of three children, says his parents taught him to think for himself. “I grew up in a very intellectually stimulating family.”
When he transferred to the University of Miami, Gold majored in finance, thinking he would follow his father’s life. However, after graduating in 1977, he changed his mind. “I wasn’t really taken in that direction,” he says.
So he entered UM Law School and in 1982. earned a JD degree. After graduating from third grade, Gold began working as a commercial lawyer at Fieldstone, Oliver, Kluger, Sumberg & Mondre. Fresh off the heat, he put aside his paycheck to save for a sports car. “Instead of buying an apartment with the money, I bought a Ferrari,” says Gold.
This amazing racer will take him to the highest career path. It didn’t take long for a cop to catch him speeding on I-95, and with the prospect of losing his license, Gold began looking for loopholes in Florida’s traffic laws. He was surprised at how easy it was.

Auks still remembers how he confronted the officer in court.
The bewildered soldier insisted that there was no need. The judge asked Auksa for an explanation, and the young lawyer explained that the state was ignoring the rules. “The judge didn’t know it, the trooper didn’t know it, so the case was dropped,” Gold says.
This great victory gave Piletiklinika a boost. Gold borrowed $25,000 from his father and opened his first office at NE 26th Street and Biscayne Boulevard. At that time, the idea of devoting an entire practice to violations of traffic rules was new. people usually just paid for tickets without asking them. Gold’s friends and relatives believed that the idea was behind him.
“My former colleagues laughed, my father was a real intellectual and said, ‘When you’re third in class, you’ll be chasing traffic tickets,'” he says.

The comments were mocking, especially from her father. “He was embarrassed,” says Gold. “I think it would be worse if I became an ambulance chaser.”
Gold told reporters his office is the first of its kind in Florida. His business model was threefold: high volume, low cost, and mass advertising on radio and television.
It didn’t take long for Gold to realize he was on to something. The ads worked their magic and hundreds called. Gold immediately hired two more attorneys.
“My whole plan had to be based on marketing,” he says. “Customers loved it from day one. They didn’t know where to turn when you get something like this.
