Spay Clinic Des Moines Iowa – Furry Friends Refuge is a non-profit humane organization serving animals in central Iowa. Furry Friends is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization that created the first no-kill community in the Des Moines metro area. Through July 1, 2023, Furry Friends is offering open adoption services to pets in need in West Des Moines, Clive and Urbandale. Furry Friends continues to meet all animal welfare needs of animals in Clive and Urbandale. We are helping regional shelters that are overwhelmed with intake and beyond capacity due to the shelter crisis we are currently seeing in Iowa and across the country. Once we can provide enough assistance to stabilize that population, we will expand our target jurisdiction to other neighboring communities, continuing our efforts to build humane communities with a safety net for all animals in need. West Des Moines has decided to end its partnership with Furry Friends by July 2023, against the wishes of many citizens. If you have a pet in West Des Moines that can no longer be walked due to a decision by the city, or if you have been waiting hours or days for a homeless animal, please contact City Manager Tom Hadden at tom.hadden@wdm.iowa.gov. The city is implementing homeless animals in its new city-run, taxpayer-funded program.
Furry Friends strives to help all animals in need through a variety of programs including adoption, spay and neuter, community outreach and humane education. Community Outreach: Provide speakers to organizations, schools, and other community venues on responsible animal husbandry and other animal-related topics. Use our therapy pet program to visit hospitals, hospice homes and nursing homes with animals upon request. Reach out to schools and hold seminars and rallies promoting compassion. Offer free advice to pet owners struggling with behavioral issues.

Track local animal cruelty cases and work with prosecutors to secure tougher sentences and psychiatric treatment.
