JetBlue Airways is making several cuts to its network, almost all of them focused on the Northeast
American Airlines And Jetblue Announce 24 New Flight Routes
The carrier is removing 14 routes from one city, as first seen in Cerium’s schedule and later confirmed by a carrier spokesperson.
These cuts are big, and they’re all in New York or Boston. You’ll find the full list of cuts below, but highlights go to Burlington, Vermont, and New York and Washington, DC. Includes service interruptions between
The routes will be closed in stages over the next few weeks, with the first transit ending shortly after the holidays in the first week of January and the second transit at the end of March.
Perhaps the most notable decline is Burlington, which has been served continuously by JetBlue for more than two decades. The exit would give Delta Air Lines a monopoly on routes from New York to Burlington, while United Airlines would continue to serve the city from its New York hub.
Jetblue Airways Lands At Td Garden: Boston’s Largest Carrier Becomes Official Airline Of The Garden And Presenting Sponsor Of The Entrance Experience
Another interesting reduction is service from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), which will end in early January.
The route started on September 16 and will now be completed a few months later on January 3, 2024. It is not uncommon for an airline to start a new route and stop operating after less than one full flight season
The deal is designed as a way for American and JetBlue to increase their presence in New York and Boston, two major Northeastern cities that both carriers have said would be difficult to serve alone against airline rivals.
So instead of competing against each other, American and JetBlue used the Northeast Alliance to coordinate schedules in the Northeast, launch new domestic and international routes, and offer codeshare and loyalty bonuses.
Jetblue And Turkish Airlines Launch Codeshare Operations
To optimize their schedules to accommodate network growth, carriers have negotiated slots — essentially take-off and landing permits.
But now that the partnership has fallen apart after Justice’s successful antitrust case, JetBlue must return the slots to American. Although American is appealing the judge’s decision, both airlines have already dissolved the alliance.
For JetBlue, that means it must either cut frequencies or abandon existing routes entirely — and the carrier has mostly pursued the latter strategy.
Apart from these Lagos slot swaps, JetBlue said it is also making layoffs due to the government’s challenges with ATS staffing.
Jetblue Will Cut Major City Flights In Coming Weeks
JetBlue is citing temporary waivers from flight slots at two of New York’s busiest airports that were recently expanded by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Slots are generally take-it-or-lose-it, meaning that if JetBlue is unable to fill its entire lineup of slots, it risks losing a valuable slot to one of its competitors.
But with these temporary slot releases (implemented mainly due to the lack of air traffic controllers in the Northeast), the airline can reduce flights to Laguaia and JFK by about 10%, allowing JetBlue to adjust its schedule to New York. Assets with huge long-term value to lose
If you book one of these affected routes, JetBlue will offer the option of an alternate flight or a full refund to your original payment method.

Jetblue Permanently Dropping 13 New York Area Routes
JetBlue Airways and American Airlines are once again expanding their partnership into what they call the “Northeast Alliance” with new routes and connectivity options for customers.
Both airlines are planning big growth in New York and Boston, adding flights to both cities, expanding into new regions and collaborating on more routes.
Scott Lawrence, JetBlue’s chief revenue and planning officer, said in a statement: “By connecting with our large customer base and international network in the US, we can add new markets we’ve been eyeing for years.” Grow because we have more access to airports we have blocked for years. “

American currently has partnerships with both mid-sized national airlines, JetBlue on the East Coast and Alaska Airlines on the West Coast. Earlier this year, after receiving the green light from the US Department of Transportation, JetBlue and American announced the first phase of the partnership.
JetBlue will add seven new cities to its route network starting in October and offer new routes to six cities with existing flights. This expansion focuses only on New York and Boston airport routes
American previously added flights to new international destinations, including Bogota, Colombia; Santiago, Chile; Tel Aviv, Israel; and Athens, Greece, among others that JetBlue passengers now have access to
And from nearby Laguadia Airport, JetBlue will triple the number of flights it offers in 2019 and expand routes to six cities focused primarily on the Southeast. Another route will also be added to Portland, Maine, where JetBlue cut back flights in 2019.
Boston Service Coming To Srq In November
JetBlue’s Laguadia-Boston shuttle route will have 15 daily flights by 2022. Existing flights from Lagos to Charleston, South Carolina; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Orlando, Florida; West Paul Beach, Florida; Fort Myers, Florida; And Tampa, Fla., will also have more daily flights
American is also committed to increasing routes from Boston, where it maintains a large presence, although it does not consider the city a hub.
American will also add one of its most luxurious domestic aircraft, the Airbus A321T, to the Boston-Los Angeles route.
Beginning May 3, more than 30 American routes will be assigned JetBlue flight numbers, bringing the total number of codeshare routes to more than 40. This strategy allows JetBlue passengers to book more routes on a single ticket and allows American to book more flights on the JetBlue website.
Jetblue Reflects On 15 Years Of Operations In Boston And Looks Ahead To Future Growth And Maintaining Leadership Position
JetBlue flies to more than 20 countries, but it’s finally making its first flight to the closest country to Canada. Flights from New York and Boston to Vancouver are planned for next summer, when the US-Canada border will be open to tourism.
“As we move through the pandemic and prepare for a safe and healthy return to non-essential travel, this new service, scheduled for summer 2022, gives us something to look forward to,” said Vancouver Airport’s President and CEO Tamara Vrooman. it said in a statement.
Vancouver is no longer served from JFK after Cathay Pacific Airways dropped the 2020 route announced before the pandemic. But JetBlue will have competition from Air Canada, which offers direct flights to Vancouver from Boston and New York.
“By choosing YVR, JetBlue signals confidence in our region as a premier destination and our airport as a trusted partner that will attract a mix of business and leisure travelers when it’s time to fly again,” Vrooman said.
