Fatal Car Accident In New Mexico Today – New Mexico Authorities have identified the driver, who is not related to the police, who died in a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday while pursuing a kidnapping suspect in Santa Fe.
Two Santa Fe patrol units were involved in a crash on Interstate 25 early Wednesday morning. The white suspect vehicle and two unrelated vehicles. A pickup truck and a blue car were involved.
Fatal Car Accident In New Mexico Today
The Santa Fe police officer killed in the crash has been identified as 43-year-old Robert Duran, an officer assigned to the Santa Fe Police Patrol Division. The driver of the truck has been identified as Frank Lovato, 62, a retired firefighter from Las Vegas, New Mexico, New Mexico State Police said.

According to police reports (KRQE), 2 units are protecting Santa Fe; A white suspect vehicle and two unrelated vehicles, a pickup truck and a blue car, were said to be involved.
Authorities said Durand and Lovato were killed while police were pursuing a car that was driving the wrong way on a freeway. The medical examiner’s office pronounced both dead.
Santa Fe Interim Chief Paul Joy said Duran joined the force in 2015 as a trooper. He is survived by his wife and two teenage sons.
“[Duran] is respected and loved by his teammates,” according to the Santa Fe New Mexico news release. “We continue to be saddened by his death both as a department and personally.”
Dead, 1 Charged In Fatal Crash In Albuquerque Home
Police say the suspect ran away after the crash and was still alive as of Thursday. The only description of the man given by authorities was his clothes. He was wearing a red shirt, police said, and black pants and a black jacket.
“The driver of the blue car was transported with life-threatening injuries,” the letter said. “The incident is still under investigation by the New Mexico State Police and the New Mexico State Police Accident Investigation Unit.”
Police received a call around 6:00 a.m. about a kidnapping at a Rancho Vizcaya home in Santa Fe. Santa Fe police said a man armed with a knife held up a car containing a woman.
According to the report, around 11:15 a.m., officers spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled northbound on Interstate 25.
Dead In New Mexico Bus Truck Crash, State Police Say
“Between the Old Pecos Trail exit and the Eldorado exit, the driver entered the northbound lane,” Santa Fe Police said. “There was an accident at mile marker 286 on the northbound lanes.”

The woman was able to get out of the car after the crash and was taken to a local hospital, police said. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries and later released. I don’t know if the woman knows the accused.
The truck driver is from New Mexico. Frank Lovato, 62, is a firefighter from Las Vegas (KRQE).

New Mexico State Police remain skeptical but say they don’t believe the threat to the public will continue. The New Mexico Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident, authorities said.
The York Times said: “The NMSP is determined to arrest and prosecute those involved in the fatal crash that claimed the life of Santa Fe Police Officer Robert Duran and caused an unprecedented tragedy for the life of former Las Vegas firefighter Frank Lovato.” An attachment to the Mexican National Police is attached.
