The driver, passenger and infant in the Chrysler were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They and the deceased passenger were from Guatemala, according to the CHP.

SAN DIEGO – A wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in the Carmel Valley area killed a 52-year-old woman and seriously injured four others Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The crash happened around 12:50 a.m. near southbound Route 56 at I-5 Carmel Valley Road, California Highway Patrol Trooper Salvador Castro said.

Castro said a 42-year-old man driving a Dodge Magnum was traveling south in the northbound lane when he crashed into a Honda Civic. After the first collision, a Ford pickup truck driven by a 32-year-old man collided with the Dodge.

A 52-year-old female passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, the official said. His name is pending notification of family members.
