They said the driver, exceeding the speed limit, turned on a right turn signal “as if the driver was about to stop” and ran through a red light, colliding with the Mitsubishi Outlander. The crash happened near the intersection of Northside Drive and 14th Street.

“It was about 37 seconds from the traffic stop to the crash,” APD said around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

A woman who works across the street from the crash in Crystal said she didn’t know what the noise was until she looked outside.

“I heard a loud noise. I don’t know if somebody hit something,” Lori Ramon said. “But I looked out the window and saw the crash. It was really loud.

The driver, 39-year-old Guillermo Brajo Barrios and 27-year-old Gemini Jerome Jackson, were both killed, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Three rear passengers were taken to Grady Hospital with unspecified injuries.

“We are deeply saddened to hear the news of this terrible tragedy,” an equestrian spokesman said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families at this difficult time, and we wish those injured a speedy recovery.”

Authorities say a Clayton County Sheriff’s Office officer was driving home on I-675 South around 6:08 a.m. when he saw a car on fire in the grass.

The police turned around and saw the driver pass out behind the wheel. Police woke up the driver by knocking on the window. Police found the driver unsteady, glassy-eyed and sweaty.

After asking the driver to open the car door, the driver put the car in gear and drove the wrong way into the front lane, authorities said. The policeman ran back to his car and saw the accident about a mile away.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the crash and saw several patrol cars blocking lanes and police filming the scene and setting up barricades.

At this time, investigators do not know if the driver was unwell or receiving treatment, but they believe he was at fault for the fatal crash.

The other driver involved in the accident died from his injuries. Police have not released information on the other parties involved or their condition.
