Success First Brooklyn High School is a public charter school in Brooklyn, New York, in the Crown Heights neighborhood. We serve students in grades 9-12 and are focused on one important goal: 100% of students are admitted to four-year colleges and universities.

We combine challenging courses and high expectations. We also ensure that our students have access to all the support that their wealthier peers receive in private schools. Our support includes SAT prep, intensive college support, and tutoring. Our classes help our students become leaders who not only listen to lectures, but also lead discussions and exchange ideas. We want to help students build a foundation and prepare them for higher education, where they can continue to grow and develop as members of society.

Here our students also grow as athletes, volunteers, leaders and global citizens. We are proud of our strong campus, varsity sports, and arts programs (including speech and debate). Our support extends beyond high school graduation, with high school counselors working closely with our high school students as they progress to colleges, including SUNY Schools, CUNY, Syracuse University, Stanford University, Williams College , St. John, Howard University and many more. Why Some Of The Country’s Best Urban Schools Are Facing A Reckoning

Brooklyn Prospect Charter School offers a close-knit community and a challenging International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Students and parents show that they appreciate the personalized attention; guest environment; and enthusiastic and accessible teachers.

“The department and the administration are very different in the best way,” one parent said. “Students of all identities feel accepted, including Muslim children, gay children, trans children, children with anxiety, and children whose parents have been expelled. All backgrounds, all incomes, ethnicities, economies – the diversity is truly fantastic. “

The International Baccalaureate is a qualification widely accepted in universities in more than 100 countries. The IB program is more demanding than the standard Regents preparatory curriculum and requires students to demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language, write a 15- to 20-page research report, give an oral presentation, and take multiple subject exams.

The school also offers a challenging “partial IB” modality, in which students can take several IB courses and graduate with a Regents diploma.

Brooklyn Students Move On To Next Phase Of Their Journey

Incoming sixth graders spend a week at Frost Valley YMCA in the Catskills for an outdoor adventure and bonding with students. In the classroom they produce public service announcements about natural disasters and climate change, design wind turbines, and make stop-motion animated films. They wrote four lab reports and policy briefs on climate data that they presented to the city at the end of the year.

High school students go on excursions around the city. They found parts of the original Frankenstein script in the Morgen Library, visited the New York Hall of Science, and many of the birthplaces of hip-hop in New York City. They have visited the United Nations and some travel to Peru, China or Italy, but one parent noted that families are paid for international travel.

Many classrooms have two teachers; some have trained in special education, others have recently graduated and are supervised by teachers in classrooms for a year.

One parent said the school closely monitors everything from academics to behavior; For example, students must go outside to go to the bathroom and the school monitors whether a child goes out more often than necessary.

The school is in an elegant four-story building near the Fort Hamilton Parkway stop of the F train. Originally a Roman Catholic elementary school, it received a $6 million upgrade to make it better for older students. Six science centers were used, secret posts were added, and each floor received a coat of red, blue, or yellow. The building has wireless Internet access and is air-conditioned.

Entry: Lottery in April. Priority will be given to siblings and students from District 15. In sixth grade, preference will be given to students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch. About 75 percent of eighth graders go on to graduate school.

Thanks to the generous support of the Heckscher Foundation for Children, we have partnered with EdTrust-NY to bring you these important data about access to educational services at each high school.

All New York City students should have equal access to critical controls and advanced services that lead to college and career readiness. But across the city, students who are Black, Latino and Indian, and come from low-income backgrounds, are less likely than their peers to attend schools that offer advanced courses. And even if they attend schools that offer these courses, they are unlikely to be accepted.

Analyzing this data will help you understand what key advanced courses are offered at each high school and whether students from different racial groups and income levels have equal access to the courses they advance. Please see the “more information” link above the data for important notes on how the data is processed.
