Las Vegans now have another option when choosing a wireless carrier, and it’s a cheaper option.
Cox Communications announced Monday the launch of Cox Mobile, a cell phone service that starts at $15 and is only available in three markets, including Las Vegas.
This service is available to existing Cox Home Internet customers and offers customers the ability to consolidate their phone, cable and internet bills.

The service is only available in Las Vegas, Hampton Roads, Virginia, and Omaha, Nebraska, but there are plans to expand to other markets “throughout the rest of this year,” the company said in a statement. The company serves 6.5 million customers in 18 countries.
Susie Blackmanriquez, communications manager at Cox, said Cox considers many factors when deciding where to launch cell phone service, including “regional presence, readiness of sales force and potential for growth.” He said he was considering these factors.
“We are watching the wireless industry closely and believe now is the time to move based on customer demand,” Blackmanriquez said in an email.
Users can choose between two data packages: “Pay As You Gig” and “Gig Unlimited”.

Pay As You Go Gig allows users to pay only for the data they use, priced at $15 per gigabyte per month. Gig Unlimited costs $45 per month and offers users unlimited data.
Both plans offer unlimited talk and text, 4G LTE and 5G, as well as access to Cox Wi-Fi hotspots, Cox said.
Blackmanriquez said that since customers don’t sign up for an annual contract, they have the option to change their data plan “whenever they need to.”
Cox is not the first cable and Internet provider to introduce mobile phone service. Dish Wireless launched its first 5G wireless network in the Las Vegas Valley earlier this year.

Since I move a lot, I prefer to call the company, talk about what they have to offer and see if I can get good terms without a contract. Something like a two-year contract is not realistic for me.
I read on the Cox Communications website that they have a variety of services and I was sure the service lines were probably busy. Between registrations, service calls, and billing issues, you probably have quite a few people on the phone with customer service agents at any given time. But, to my surprise, the wait time was not bad, so this is another reason to consider this company. I like the idea of having solid 24/7 customer support.
