Bellco Credit Union Savings Rates – Commemorating International Credit Union Day® on Thursday, October 20, 2022, in part by hosting a Financial Literacy Fair at Greenwood Middle School (Millerstown, Perry County).
The reality show, one of many Belco events during the school year in different high schools, is a budget exercise, which requires students to first research the initial salary of a career that interests them. They have to determine a monthly budget based on this income, taking into account real-world financial experiences like buying a car, paying for health insurance, housing, food, etc. Of course, there are many temptations to spend a lot of money, and students must learn to balance their wants and needs in order to live independently. This exhibition is a unique opportunity for any student to explore some of the financial challenges they face as they begin to become independent.

“Our financial fairs are one of the most important ways we give back to our community,” said Sam Glesner, Senior Vice President of Business Support. “Financial literacy for all is a key pillar of the credit union. We feel fortunate to be able to offer these programs and other financial education events to people of all ages.”

Belco is also one of the only credit unions in Central Pennsylvania to operate a branch at a local high school. The Big Spring Bulldog Branch operates limited school hours and offers annual training for students interested in a career in finance.
“Unfortunately, it’s well documented that most adults have never received any financial education,” Glesner said. “Part of what makes credit unions unique is our not-for-profit approach. We return our profits to our members in the form of better prices and community support. Credit unions represent more than $226 billion in economic impact year.
ICU Day highlights the many ways credit unions around the world help members improve their financial health and well-being. Belco will join more than 56,000 credit unions worldwide to celebrate International Credit Union Day (ICU). The theme of ICU Day 2022 is “Strengthen Your Financial Future Through Credit Union”.
