News 6 partner Local 10 News has learned through police sources that Pembroke Pines PD Motorcycle Officer Charles Herring.
According to multiple sources, Herring was riding his motorcycle southbound on Northwest 184th Avenue when he struck a fallen palm tree, causing the officer to lose control of the motorcycle and leave.
Police confirmed that all of Northwest 184th Avenue between Johnson Street and Northwest 23rd Street was closed following the crash.
Sky 10 was above the scene around 12:30 p.m. The officer’s motorcycle was on the side of the road with all the dirt.

The driver was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, but unfortunately did not survive.
Dozens of officers attended to take the dead motorcyclist’s body from the hospital to the medical examiner.
Many drivers stopped to help two cars stuck on the side of the road.
According to PPPD Chief Kipp Chimpeno, Herring is the first Pembroke Pines police officer in the history of the department.

“My dear father, he is my friend,” Chimpeno said. “Charlie is loved by everyone at this agency and by many in the community. It’s going to take time and a lot of unity to get through this.”
