The credit union said any of its 168 customers or 132 other people who used the ATM on Saturday or Sunday could be affected. Credit union customers may have their cards blocked as a precaution.
“Northwest Community Credit Union is state insured, and your account is protected,” said Michael Hoagland, NWCU’s Director of Business Risk Management. “Credit unions will block affected members’ cards to prevent fraudulent access. As this can disrupt your bank in the short term, we want to help members get replacement cards as soon as possible.”
“If you will be using this ATM over the weekend, please check your online banking transaction records,” Northwest Community Credit Union said in a statement. “If you notice unusual activity that you have not authorized, contact your bank or credit union.”
Hoagland said the holiday weekend is a good time for scammers: because families are on the go, and they can be distracted enough not to notice a player sticking to an ATM.
