The list ranges from $1,000 to $4,000 for the host and includes 3 to 5 hours of entertainment time, not including set-up and clean-up. Costs for planning a ceremony range from $2,000 to $6,000 with a menu and $2,000 to $20,000 for just the wedding. Additional hours can be arranged for a fee. If the event is held indoors and outdoors, a fee will be charged. All prices vary according to the day and the needs of the ballroom. The Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center was built in the twenties, when flappers, radio and the Art Deco movement defined the era.
The idea for Hotel Heidelberg began in 1927, when the architect Edward Nield drew a luxury hotel on a tablecloth, without an official plan to build it in the capital of Louisiana. In 1928, Huey P. Long was elected governor, establishing himself as one of the state’s most colorful people. In the 1930s, Long oversaw the construction of a new state capitol four blocks from the Heidelberg Hotel. One of its characteristics is its position as the highest capital of the country. In 1931, Heidelberg itself became the Louisiana Capitol during a dispute between Long and Lt. Governor Paul Cyr. Long, recently elected senator, refused to relinquish his duties as governor and Cyr established operations at the hotel. He died suddenly and suspiciously in 1935 when he was assassinated in front of the Capitol. Many of the events surrounding his death remain unexplained, and rumors persist to this day, particularly about the location of Long’s so-called “deduction box”, a amount of political capital.
In 1931, the hotel was briefly used as the Louisiana State Capitol during the power struggle between Huey P Long, governor, and Paul Cyr, lieutenant governor. Cyr introduced the hotel to the capital of Louisiana after Long refused to give up control after winning a seat in the United States Senate.

One of the unique features of the hotel is the secret underground passage to the King Hotel across the street, which gave Huey direct access to his mysterious master. Today, guests can dine in the famous secret corridor. Heidelberg was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It received the Bricks and Mortar award from the Historic Louisiana Foundation. In 2006, after a more than $70 million renovation, the former Heidelberg hotel was reborn as the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center. Modern renovations, elegant furnishings, fine dining and lounges and a fitness center breathe new life into this historic hotel.
1927 – Hotel construction completed and opened as Hotel Heidelberg, including 216 guest rooms, dining room, roof garden and restaurant 1929 – Huey P. Long occupied his fifth floor suite 1931 – A walkway was built to down to connect the lobbies of the Hotel Heidelberg Hotel King (now known as “the road” which can be visited today) The hotel was also used briefly as a temporary state capital during the power struggle with Huey Long and the lieutenant governor. 1957 – Alfred Glassel plans to build the 10th floor, a $2.5 million addition with 168 rooms and a large suite on the 10th floor – completed in 1959 and the hotel renamed the Capitol House. 1982 Hotel listed on the National Register of Historic Places 1985 – Hotel closed 2003 – Hotel purchased and renovated 2006 – Hilton Capitol Center Hotel reopened
