Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Maryland – The Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD-200 was closed in both directions between Exit 3/Shady Grove Road and Exit 8 MD-97/Georgia Avenue pending a police investigation into the crash that occurred around 7:30 Thursday evening.
At approximately 7:28 p.m., an on-duty Montgomery County police officer was driving westbound on ICC in a marked patrol car when his cruiser was struck by a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver was reportedly ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene. The Montgomery County police officer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is on scene and investigating the crash. ICC closed both directions of Georgia Avenue and Shady Grove Road for an extended period of time during this investigation.
According to a report by WUSA9, the incident “created traffic chaos as drivers began driving in either direction to avoid it.”

Local police officers and fire rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike (US 29) and Fairland Road after receiving reports of a two-vehicle collision that had just occurred.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2003 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling south on Columbia Pike (US 29) near Fairland Road. A second vehicle, a white 2019 Toyota Camry, attempted to make a left turn from northbound Columbia Pike (US 29) onto westbound Fairland Road. Both vehicles collided near the intersection. The motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead immediately. The driver of the Toyota was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continues to investigate the crash. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.

Two Injured After Car Collides With Maryland State Police Cruiser
The fatal motorcycle accident reportedly occurred on Highway 81 in East Hanover Township. Authorities said the rider lost control of his Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle and skidded to the center of the road. He slipped off his motorcycle and was hit by a tractor trailer as he tried to leave. He was reported to have died at the scene of the accident.
The truck driver involved in the crash, a man in his 50s, fled the scene on foot and could not be investigated. Investigators are trying to determine what caused the victim to slip off the road and why the tractor-trailer driver was unable to avoid the crash. It is unclear whether the truck driver was liable for the accident if he did not leave the scene of the accident without notifying authorities.
This hit-and-run accident victim is the 13th fatality recorded in a traffic accident in Lebanon County this year. The most recent fatality before this crash was an 18-year-old driver who died Aug. 25 near West Kercher Avenue in North Lebanon Township.

Investigators with the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit say a 2012 Yamaha Zuma motorcycle and a 2004 Peterbilt tractor trailer were traveling westbound on River Road toward Beech Tree Road when the driver of the motorcycle struck them for unknown reasons. Police say the motorcycle collided with a truck and then a 2020 Ford Transit van that was stopped on Beech Tree Road before turning onto River Road.
The motorcyclist, Babak Lobubi, 57, of Helmsdale Road, Bethesda, was found dead at the scene from his injuries.
