Las Vegas vegans now have another option when choosing a wireless provider, which can be cheaper.
Cox Communications announced Monday the pilot launch of Cox Mobile, a cell phone service starting at $15 and available in just three markets, including Las Vegas.
The service is available to existing Cox home internet customers and allows customers to combine their phone, cable and internet bills.

While the service is only available in Las Vegas, as well as Hampton Roads, Va., and Omaha, Neb., there are plans to expand to other markets “gradually over the remainder of the year,” according to a company press release. The company serves 6.5 million customers in 18 states.
Cox said it considered several factors when deciding where to launch its cell phone service, including “regional presence, sales force readiness and growth potential,” according to Susie Black-Manriquez, Cox’s communications manager.
“We are closely monitoring the wireless industry and believe now is the time to enter based on customer demand,” Black-Manriquez said in an email.
Customers can choose between two data plans: Pay As You Gig and Gig Unlimited.

Pay As You Gig allows customers to pay only for the data they use at a cost of $15 per gigabyte per month. Gig Unlimited costs $45 per month and offers users unlimited data.
According to Cox, both plans offer unlimited calling and texting, 4G LTE and 5G coverage, and access to Cox Wi-Fi hotspots.
Black-Manriquez said that because customers are not locked into an annual contract, they have the option to change their data plan “whenever necessary.”
Cox isn’t the first cable and internet provider to launch cell phone service. Dish Wireless launched its first 5G wireless network in the Las Vegas Valley earlier this year.
