The average price of a used car in the United States will reach $32,245 in October 2022, or $8,500 more than 2019, according to a new report by financial analytics firm CoPilot.com.

The report explains that this dramatic price increase represents a 35% jump compared to forecasts for this time of year.
“Despite economic headwinds from inflation, interest rates and fuel prices, ongoing shortages of new car inventory and strong consumer demand have pushed used car prices to record levels,” the report said.

Although used car prices have reached stratospheric levels, they are only $172 below their all-time high in March 2022.
According to CoPilot, the most expensive used cars this year will be one to three years old, as they will be about $13,145 more expensive than in 2021.
In turn, the report indicates that vehicles between four and seven years old will be $9,086 more expensive than in 2021, and vehicles between eight and thirteen years old will be $5,414 more expensive.
In terms of car type, the report noted that coupe and convertible style cars will be the vehicles that will increase in price the most in 2022, as both will be 57% and 55% more expensive respectively.

When it comes to brands, used car models such as Volkswagen, Toyota, Ram, Chevrolet, Ford and GMC will increase in price by more than $9,000 in 2022, according to CoPilot.
“Despite a long list of economic indicators, our report shows that demand for used vehicles remains very strong, especially for newer and more expensive vehicles,” CoPilot concluded.
The report focused on inflation figures reported by the US in early July, where the consumer price index showed used car prices rose 7% year-on-year last month.
