Powell CDC offers a treatment program for victims of addiction. By understanding chemical addiction and getting support, people with anxiety can better cope with the stress of addiction. Without treatment, the family illness may continue. Recovery for family members can happen even if the chemically dependent person continues to use.
There is no charge for interested individuals whose loved one is currently being treated at Powell CDC. At Powell CDC, we are dedicated to teaching you what you need to know to educate yourself about addiction and personal growth.

The Family Recovery Program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for twelve sessions. Families come together to form an educational team and then break into small support groups. Individual and family therapy sessions are also available.
Powell CDC offers eighteen volunteer-led growth groups to keep in touch with people in recovery. Aftercare groups are held at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and West Methodist Hospital. Located on the fourth floor of Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Powell’s Bookstore offers books to families and people in recovery looking for answers. There are healing books for cleanliness and sobriety. There are books that look at different addictions to explain rehabilitation. You’ll find topics ranging from violence to addiction and from addiction to feelings of withdrawal.
Powell is a total abstinence based program. We ask patients and clients to refrain from any form of drugs and alcohol, except for non-addictive and non-habit forming prescriptions, and any addictive or addictive behavior such as gambling, as this . relapse Inpatients who use tobacco products may be offered nicotine gum, nicotine patches, and smoking cessation referrals as we encourage patients to quit all tobacco products.

The treatment team includes nurses, nurse practitioners, certified alcohol and drug counselors, licensed mental health therapists, care managers, counselors/patient care technicians, unit staff, and chaplains.
The Association of Alumni and Friends of the Powell Center for Chemical Dependence (CDC) is an organization that has been in operation since 1975, and whose main purpose is to raise money to help patients of the Powell CDC in need of financial assistance. We are run by a committee of volunteers and work to sponsor fun, clean and sober events for all of our alumni.
Committee meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 17:30 to 18:30. in Room 461 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Anyone is welcome to attend a committee meeting, whether they are Powell CDC alumni or a friend of someone who attended Powell CDC. We welcome anyone interested in a sober lifestyle to attend our meetings.
