While a learning curve was to be expected, the response was better than expected. Some people had trouble with the new system, but the staff helped them get used to it in no time.
“It’s different and exciting, so of course questions are called for,” Stelter said. “But we got less than we thought, which is good. It shows us that the site is easy to navigate, which is the point.
Financial Plus Credit Union’s new learning app is another way the credit union is using technology to benefit its members. Members have direct control over their accounts through a redesigned website. They also have access to tips on how to manage money effectively through the app.

“We’ve been looking for financial literacy tools for some time. Some of them are aimed at college-age students,” said Stelter. “We want to focus more on young students, giving them financial knowledge before college when they start making financial decisions.”
Financial Plus Credit Union partnered with Zogo to bring the app to life and make the credit union service available to everyone in their zip code. It helps users learn about various financial knowledge through quizzes and they can get rewards including gift cards for completing the formula.

One way the credit union does that is with its annual winter clothing drive, which collects coats, gloves and hats for Des Moines Public Schools. This year alone, 57 coats, 24 hats and 30 pairs of gloves were donated to needy children.
