San Jose police said one person was killed at the scene of the crash and three others were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Police responded at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the area of Gurdwara Avenue and Carrera Court in East San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department.

A 2001 Honda Civic, with four young people inside, was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Gurdwara Road when it struck a tree in the median and overturned, police said.
Police said one of the children died at the scene, while the other three were seriously injured. The collision marks the city’s 46th death and 47th victim of 2021.

The victim’s identity was not released pending family notification by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office.
