Downtown Des Moines Iowa Restaurants

Downtown Des Moines Iowa Restaurants – I couldn’t do a series on Des Moines without a selection of our amazing restaurants. Of course, there’s no way to include them all, so I’ve chosen my own list of must-see restaurants in Des Moines, Iowa. What if you call and say you’re in town for an event, a girls’ night out, or just a nightclub. Our city’s restaurant scene has grown and continues to grow at an amazing rate, and here are my favorites based on why I love to go.

One of the first restaurants I fell in love with when I moved to Des Moines, Centro was always a mainstay. Located in downtown Des Moines, they serve Italian food, specializing in pizza/salad combos and homemade breads from their lunch spot, South Union. A perfect blend of modern designs, antique decorations and original floor tiles await you with the aroma of garlic and red wine, followed by a waiter wearing a traditional white shirt, black tie and the clicking and whirring of instruments in the high ceiling. Such a great place to have lunch and take visitors into town.

When T and I were in town every weekend, Exile was our go-to place. Meet there for beer and gear and continue to the bars. This unique, renovated warehouse is now a brewery serving some of Des Moines’ most popular local beers. You can’t visit without stopping at a beer hall and going next door to a restaurant to enjoy the same delicious food – which should be paired with beer. From burgers to desserts to mac and cheese, there’s something for everyone.

The Best Fancy Restaurants In Des Moines For Celebrating Any Occasion

High Life Lounge is the best if you’re looking for simple bar food with a cold beer. This retro joint is like a time machine — on purpose — and the $2 Miller High Life sips make it even better. Oh, and the $5 burger baskets are irresistible. Or order their wickedly packaged tots and you’ll be good to go. Either way, you’ll enjoy a good meal with a shag rug, old Schlitz ads, and good company. It’s a great place to stop before a sporting event, like a bike stop or for a night out.

A perfect atmosphere with plenty of cocktail options and shareable plate options, how could it be better for a date or a girls’ night out? that is not allowed. One of my favorite places to visit when the weather is cold, this dimly lit and ornate place always provides a good time. From their whiskey specials to their crab cake sliders, I could eat all night long. I recommend making a reservation on weekends because seating is limited, but they also have comfortable couches and low cocktail tables.

Good guacamole and fish tacos are usually all it takes to win my heart, but Malo’s has that and then some. One of the most unique maps I have come across in the city, there are many “must haves” that I will never forget. Plus, the food is not only out of this world, but the atmosphere is amazing. Located in the heart of the city, within a community club, this is the place to be. I eat lunch regularly, with a side salad from their taco a la carte menu. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
