Critical Access Hospitals, tasked with providing essential hospital services to rural residents, are faced with particular challenges in serving their communities.
No two health clinics are alike, they all serve different populations and vary in size and functionality.
Architecture and design are critical elements in ensuring that Critical Access Hospitals meet funding criteria and meet the needs of their staff and patients.
For Design Side, we spoke to some talented healthcare designers to explore this amazing role.

There will be no great health care. It is the result of sincerity and innovation – which requires more than knowledge and empathy. Founded in 1893, Mercy Medical Center is a 917-bed acute care hospital located on three campuses in Des Moines, IA. The center recently announced Mercy Momentum, a comprehensive multi-year plan to address Central Iowa’s health care needs.
The most recently completed project is the $80 million East Wing, which features state-of-the-art medical services designed to increase patient privacy, access and overall comfort for patients and their families. As part of the expansion, the center required a unique, dynamic signage solution that would closely fit the new and old building and grow with the center over the coming years.
The ASI will stay within the hospital’s budget for the East Side, meet project expectations, and meet current ADA guidelines. ASI consulted with interior design experts to determine how the new addition would complement the final effect.
ASI is providing a digital signage system to serve as the primary signage system for the state-of-the-art Mercy Conference Center. The system effectively organizes information and effectively communicates current and upcoming events to conference attendees, physicians and community members. Infinity was selected as the leading indoor monitoring solution due to its excellent modular design. Additionally, tree strokes and digital fingerprints are used as identifiers for key field positions such as Pediatrics.

CHICAGO – Details of a cyber attack on one of the largest US health systems have been slow to emerge, as security experts warned Friday that it often takes time to fully affect patients and hospitals. to evaluate.
Earlier this week, CommonSpirit Health confirmed that it had experienced an IT security breach, but did not respond to questions about the details of what happened, including how many of its 1,000 care sites were affected. could serve 20 million Americans. America’s largest health care system, the second largest not-for-profit health system, with 140 hospitals in 21 states.
Mercyone Hospitals Not Allowing Visitors With Only Few Exceptions
“Of course it takes time to test those limits because you’re trying to recover all of your systems,” said Alan Liska, an analyst at the cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. “You’re trying to engage patients. You’re trying to get your nurses and doctors into the system that they need.”
Healthcare organizations are an attractive target for cyber attackers – especially those who use malware to steal files from victim organizations and extract information for payments. Ransomware remains a threat to the industry, which includes 16 sectors classified as critical infrastructure by the US government.
Liska said that in 2021, there were 285 cases of accidental attacks on the health care system worldwide. To date, Liska’s company has tracked 155 with an average of 20 attacks per month. However, he estimates that only 10% of ransomware attacks are publicly disclosed.
Cybersecurity experts say years of work have boosted health care officials’ confidence in the FBI and other federal agencies focused on cybercrime.

John Riggi, national cybersecurity and risk advisor for the American Hospital Association, said he could not speak specifically about CommonSpirit. In general, he said, it can take days, weeks or more to determine how an attacker got in, what damage was done, and how to prevent further damage.
Riggi, who spent nearly 30 years with the FBI, called the critical cyber attack on the hospital a “threat to patient safety” and said the US government was taking it seriously. The aim, he said, is to identify and arrest the attackers. personality and social procedure.
“They don’t want to show their hands, what they know about the bad guys.” “You’re actually handling a crime scene. “
But there are risks for victims of cyber attacks who don’t communicate response plans and recovery strategies, according to Mike Hamilton, chief security officer at Critical Insights Cybersecurity in Washington.

The response of patients, employees and healthcare operations related to the chain arrangement could affect the safety of the company in the future, he said.
“That’s how close we are to the decision, here we are, this is another hospital we’re working on,” Hamilton said. “You have to make sure they communicate … Because it affects a lot of people.”
