Great Western Bank Des Moines Ia – The new bank building, located on a high-traffic main road, gave this community bank the opportunity to make an impact through the design of its first location.
The project is organized around two main horizontal axes. The narrow axis includes the entrance, seating area, conference room and a small outdoor grove. The long East-West axis is organized with a driveway and teller counter, a reception area and a central conference room. The building is organized into 3′-6″ planning blocks to accommodate interior and exterior glazing, as well as exterior steel and stone panels. True north-south orientation takes advantage of passive daylight and preserves architectural protection. East and west ends from unwanted solar gain.

Interior offices, conference rooms and support spaces form a continuous ring around the central hub. The offices have glass facades to maximize security and take advantage of natural light, while improving connectivity with customers and colleagues. Importantly, the project shows how banks will develop in the future, such as drive-up and teller lanes that eliminate the traditional vertical separation between stations.

The finish palette is kept to a minimum with polished concrete floors in the central area, clean white ceilings and walnut details in the central conference room and cashier counter.
The exterior is covered with 2/3 span stone and 1/3 window defines the office. Weather-resistant steel placed on the lawn covers most of the public functions of the teller, driver and vault. An extremely thin strip of weather-resistant steel spans the length of the façade and is finished with a perforated steel screen that serves as a signal backdrop for the bank’s highly visible public elevation. West Des Moines Street will close at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024. We will resume regular banking operations on Monday, April 15, our first official day me at the new location at 3330 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
The Grand Ave location will be available to assist customers on Friday, April 12. Big avenue. The lobby will be open on Saturday April 13 to assist customers.
