Hi, I’m Jeff Wagoner and you’ve probably seen me on our website or in other videos on our website. video blog But I wanted to take a few minutes to tell you about my background and why I think I’ll end up as a bankruptcy attorney.

When I went to law school, I focused on being a lawyer and never thought I would be a bankruptcy lawyer. In my first job out of law school, I worked as a prosecutor and I have no problem saying that I absolutely hated trial. When I left that job to start my own law firm in August 1997, I was very much on the other side: managing a collection of 4 big firms in Kansas City, trying to collect their bad accounts. But I kept experiencing failure situations, so I thought I’d try introducing a few failures to learn the ropes. What I realized was that I connected well with those clients and felt like I was helping them a lot. You see, while lawyers usually follow the money and end up working for people or companies that can afford those huge legal fees, I didn’t grow up around money. When I was young, we were poor – poor. I grew up on a farm, and in 1977, when I was 13, we lost the farm. The bank came in and sold everything. This happened a lot in the late 70s, but it was still very difficult for my father. He failed and died a few months later. So he left my mother to raise 4 children alone. I don’t know how he did it. He somehow got me into Mizzou College, and I joined the Navy in 1986 after graduation. I was fortunate enough to spend 6 years on active duty in the aerospace industry. But after experiencing active duty in Operation Desert Storm, I wanted to come home and join the Navy. I am retired after 23 years in the army. After I left active duty in 1992, I went to law school right here in Kansas City at UMKC, graduating in 1995. One thing I have learned in my 23 years in the military is the importance of serving the people who need your help and that. serving with respect and honor.
