OnPoint Community Credit Union plans to open 20 new branches inside Fred Meyer this year in the largest expansion in the bank’s history.

The Portland-based credit union began expansion by opening new branches in Cornelius, Hillsboro, Gresham and Sandy this month, according to Tory McVay, chief accountant. By the end of the year, OnPoint will operate 55 branches in communities throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Record Year Community, Member Investment This year, several crises required people to quickly navigate financial problems, aid and government loan programs, with a sharp increase in fraud and credit fraud. To support members through these complex challenges, OnPoint services are personalized to meet members’ specific needs, including payday excess, special loans, mortgages, CD penalty waivers for early withdrawals and the Small Business Administration Payday Loan Protection Program.
This year’s economic challenges also affected local nonprofit organizations that provide resources and services to their communities. In response, OnPoint distributed a record $1.65 million in grants to 280 nonprofits across Oregon and Southwest Washington that focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as education, community development, youth support, epidemics and fire emergencies.
Historic Membership, Service Area and Branch Growth In 2020, OnPoint grew its total membership to more than 415,000 members in Oregon and Southwest Washington and its assets to more than $7.7 billion. The credit union also expanded its service area significantly this year, adding 15 new counties to its charter by June 2020, bringing the total to 28 in Oregon and two in Southwest Washington.
