“After applying to the PCT program and working on the floor for a while, I was able to see my nurses in action and I knew this was where I wanted to be,” said De Caro.

“I do a lot of patient care. I’m kind of the eyes and ears of the nurse,” De Caro said.
The Florida Hospital Association said the state faces a shortage of 55,000 nurses out of a total of 59,000 based on the 2021 survey.
“BayCare wants to be part of the solution,” said Jackie Monroe, BayCare’s vice president of nursing systems and resources.
BayCare said it received nearly $1 million in federal funding to help train more nurses and increase its nursing staff.

“We believe that these federal funds that they have received will be able to expand some of our existing programs: our palliative care specialist program, our LPN program and our nurse associate programs,” Monroe said.
BayCare said the funding will help bring more nurses into the field, hoping to train 30 nurses, 120 additional PCTs and 12 first-year RN students.
“In addition, the funds we believe will also help support the purchase of simulation equipment that will help improve the knowledge and critical thinking skills of our nurses as they provide safe and reliable patient care,” Monroe said.

I decided to pursue a PGY2 residency because I knew it would give me the additional training and tools I needed to expand my clinical skills to become a pediatric pharmacist. Residency gives me the opportunity to be confident in my ability to provide high quality patient care and allows me to enrich my personal and professional growth.
I chose St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital because they provide the opportunity to learn from a variety of patients while knowing the importance of clinical rotation. During my training at APPE and my PGY1, I received support and encouragement from all the pharmacists, residents, and the BayCare team. I knew that St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is where I wanted to continue to work, learn and grow as a pediatric physician. St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital offers many options to choose from. Learning opportunities at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital aligns with my career goals of becoming a pediatric pharmacist.
I strive to be a well-rounded clinical pharmacist and manager capable of overseeing operations and services throughout a pharmacy practice. Without a doubt, the education provided through the HSPAL-focused residency will undoubtedly provide me with the clinical knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in various leadership roles within my pharmaceutical career. As a nurse, I am committed to lifelong learning to continue to provide compassion, innovation, and evidence-based care to my patients. My decision to end my residency is a testament to that commitment.

By researching the program, attending information sessions and speaking with current and former residents, it became clear that BayCare’s goal of providing the gold standard of compassion is more than just words. I entered the PGY-1 residency to become a well-rounded clinical pharmacist capable of providing excellent care to my patients. During my stay, I will expand my clinical knowledge, grow professionally and develop strong relationships with my teammates. I look forward to the positive, long-term experiences I will have in the coming year and how it will help me achieve my career goals.
I knew that St. Joseph’s Hospital South and BayCare will be a place where I can succeed after speaking with management and former residents. There is a friendly culture of professional growth and development with personal development in mind, which sets this program apart from others. With a strong clinical rotation, this program provides me with the knowledge and skills to be the best therapist I can be. I am honored to call St. Joseph’s Hospital – Sid is my new home.
When I started pharmacy school, I wanted to be exposed to different areas of medicine to help me decide what I wanted to do after graduation. It was during the IPPE and APPE rotation that I realized I wanted to become a pharmacist and be part of a professional team that cares for patients at school. Therefore, I decided to complete my residency to further my medical education and training in a patient-centered environment where I would gain the broad knowledge needed to solve problems. The residency provides a structured and long-term learning experience with many opportunities for self-reflection and feedback that will help me achieve my future career goals. Completing the PGY-1 is also the first step in my career path to further specialize in oncology, which is one of my areas of interest.

The pharmacy residency program at Winter Haven Hospital offers a wide variety of core rotations that will strengthen my clinical knowledge and skills to make me an ideal candidate for a PGY-2 program or to enter the workforce as a strong and confident pharmacist. My desire to apply for the program was reinforced when I met the RPD and resident at my school, where they both enthusiastically expressed the value of the program. They demonstrated the teaching assistant’s commitment to the arts and to student learning in a challenging but supportive environment. I also had the opportunity to complete an APPE rotation at BayCare Hospital, where I experienced the strong reputation, compassionate care, and culture of hospitality that the system has to offer. It was during my interview at Winter Haven Hospital that I experienced a caring and supportive family-like environment when I finally confirmed my decision that this is the hospital where I would do my internship.
During my time in medical school, my experiences shaped me into a professional physician and manager. Completing the pharmacy residency was important to me because it allowed me to continue to develop as a pharmacist. I knew it would give me the tools I needed to build and strengthen my clinical knowledge, increase my confidence and sharpen my communication skills.
St. Joseph’s Hospital holds a special place in my heart. My medical journey began in St. Volunteering at Joseph’s Hospital in the pharmacy during my second year of undergrad, which opened up the opportunity for me to become a pharmacist and intern there. The management, pharmacists and technicians who taught me so much and made me feel like family. Completing my residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital allows me to grow as a pharmacist and my family.
