Cox Committed To Employees, Community
In Clark County, a school district partnered with Cox Communications to address this issue and expand Internet access for students who need it. Connect2Compete, the company’s program to provide internet access to low-income households eligible for government benefits, was first created in 2012 and has expanded significantly in recent weeks, with the company now offering two months free Providing access for those in need. Providing the service.
“The program is based on this type of national research on the needs of our communities across the country,” Tamar Hubelli, director of community relations in Cox Las Vegas, said to create the program. at home.”
Previously, to qualify for the program, families had to meet a number of conditions. In addition to having at least one K-12 student in the family and receiving government benefits, families cannot have bad debt with Cox or be a Cox customer in the 90 days prior to application.
“Because of the pandemic, and knowing that there was a need for students, we made some changes,” said Hubili.

Cox has now waived all bad credit requirements, allowing access to all eligible low-income families with existing Cox students and contracts. In addition, Cox offers the first 60 days of service free, eliminating data redundancy and increasing speeds for existing customers. After the initial 60 days, the service costs $9.95 per month.
“If we have existing [Connect2Compete] customers, we will upgrade their service level from 25 Mbps to 50 Mbps,” Hubili said. “So there are still some benefits for our existing customers. They will gain speed during the pandemic.”
To make the application process easier for families and ensure every family in need has access, Cox works directly with the school district to identify homes eligible for service. School administrators provide Cox with a list of addresses for families who fit the program, and those families are automatically approved, making it easier for families to follow the online application process.
Hubili explained that Cox does not receive the names of students or families, but if families apply at an eligible address, they are automatically approved to provide the service.

Although field technicians are no longer allowed to enter homes to provide assistance, they do go into homes to help by phone or from a safe distance. Cox also opened more than 3,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots in Southern Nevada to support the FCC’s Keep Americans Connected pledge.
