Craigslist Houston By Owner Cars And Trucks – A couple paid $15,000 for a truck they saw on Craigslist, but it was replaced because the previous owner defaulted on his loan.
When Anita Marin and her husband advertised their truck on Craigslist in February, that’s what they wanted.

“My husband loves trucks like that and he saw it and he loved it,” Marin said.

Marin said the seller agreed to drop the price to $15,000, so she and her husband agreed to meet with seller Jassen Clayton Doherty.
“It was 2008 and we were just looking around, he said we could run it,” Marin said.
Marin and her husband say they gave Doherty the money and she gave them the receipt. He did not give them the title of the wagon, although Marins asked.
“He’s going to pay the taxes, title and license. He’s going to change my name and get the title in my address,” Marin said.

That’s when Marin found out he had a truck loan that Doherty never paid, so the truck was held at the bank. Doherty is now behind bars for a related crime in Brazoria County, and Marin has a $15,000 bond.
Tire experts say this type of scam is happening more often and it’s the number one reason to get a title before paying for a used vehicle.
“It’s your decision, otherwise it’s a wave of the hand and a lot of air and goodbye and good for you,” said Dan Parsons at the Houston BBB.
Crews are contacting the Brazoria District Attorney’s Office to see if charges can be filed against Doherty.
