But Shunnarah’s attorneys remain among the largest contributors to federal grand jury cases, which he admits is not surprising given the number of new cases they handle each year.

“I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs,” Shunnarah said. When I was 10 years old, my dad started taking me to the flea market every week.”
Shunnarah said that sometimes her father left her alone at the market table. “He would say ‘I want you to sell me $50 before I come back… It made me more human just to meet people and learn how to communicate and negotiate’.”
There were times when Shunnarah took her father on city tours in the late ’70s – places like Meridian or McComb Mississippi or the Louisiana Delta.
“You just fill your car with things like clothes, sheets, clothes, watches and jewelry,” says Shunnarah. “Sometimes you stop at the gas station on the way and chat and try to sell something.”

Shunnarah said her father would go into the neighborhood and honk and people would get in the car and open the trunk. “It was built on relationships just like my business is now.”
The first time she got shingles in 2001, after nearly six years of working with Cory Watson, Shunnarah had a one-legged helper. He said he did no advertising other than preaching in church and handing out business cards door to door.
However, there was no shortage of people asking him to preach in many different ways. He said he had pens, cards and magnets. So he had a “good position” in YellowPages until he realized that the directories were growing and he needed to get rid of the ads.
“As the business grew, we got into television, social media and search engines,” says Shunnarah. “I followed my gut and my heart and it really worked for us.”
Alexander Shunnarah Shares The Story Behind His Success In Alabama
In about a year, Shunnarah ran two YouTube ads targeting specific cities. In these episodes, he stands in front of a photo of the city’s landmarks, shows some facts about the community, and shows his law firm’s willingness to help people facing any kind of trouble. What misfortune? He ends each sentence with “we look forward to working hard to get our money’s worth”.
Looking at how other companies seem to be succeeding in their legal and promotional efforts to grow their businesses, Shunnarah says, “I really believe I did it the way I wanted to.”
Shunnarah will never reveal how much it spends on TV ads and billboards — or how much it collects from lawsuits. And he won’t say which is better – TV or billboards.
“I think they work well together,” Shunnarah said. “I think it’s the combination of everything we do that makes us successful.”

Shunnarah said one thing TV can do is track TV audiences. For example, he might choose ads targeting people who have problems with transvaginal mesh products to appear near shows that women tend to watch. He says billboards are used for branding, so your name will appear within seconds of a driver seeing it.
His success reflects his focus on television commercials and posters. For about 10 years, he didn’t take cases in Montgomery, Huntsville or the Anniston and Gadsden areas, so he started advertising on television, four years later — around 2009 — with billboards.
Shunnarah echoes the old adage on billboards and television: “No one can hire you unless they know who you are.”
Around 2009 and 2010, Shunnarah said she began to make progress. “It was like the lights went on… It seemed like our business doubled overnight,” Shunnarah said.

“But the success of his business comes from the way he treats his customers — or clients —,” Shunnarah said. “Really, you have to serve your customers well,” he said.
