Mikko has nearly 30 years of litigation experience. He has litigated a variety of civil cases in federal and state courts, ranging from product liability and toxic torts to business and commercial litigation. He has tried commercial disputes including complex contract litigation, shareholder derivative litigation, and covenants not to compete.
He currently serves as general counsel for several companies handling asbestos litigation in Tennessee. In this role, Mike served as coordinating counsel for defense teams in many cases across the state. He has been involved in all aspects of asbestos litigation, from jury trials to appeals. In May 2020, he served as lead counsel on an appeal that successfully argued to the Tennessee Supreme Court that appliance manufacturers were not liable for third-party asbestos-containing parts later incorporated into their products.
The majority of Mike’s practice is dedicated to representing property owners and management companies in the apartment building industry. The profession includes handling tenant disputes and evictions, drafting apartment leases, representing landlords on fair housing issues, and discussing issues important to the apartment building industry. He previously served on the board of directors of the Greater Knoxville Apartment Association and currently serves as the association’s general counsel. He is also a member of the Tennessee Apartment Association and the National Apartment Association.
