Founded in 1986 outside of Carlisle, Iowa, Animal Lifeline (ALI) is the only no-kill special needs animal shelter in central Iowa, serving Des Moines County and Iowa for nearly 40 years. Stephanie Weiler, who oversees all of ARL’s marketing and public relations operations, has been there for nearly seven years. “I would say my favorite part [of working at ARL] is being able to contribute to making a difference for animals and the people who love them.”
Filer provided ARL with a lot of information about how the adoption process works. He said people try to choose dogs not according to their breed, but rather according to their personality. Some dogs are best suited for families, some just for seniors, and some for young, active owners who can keep up with their active dogs. Therefore, when presenting an ARL, you should not base your choice on the dog’s appearance, but on the opportunity to learn more about its character.
ARL’s adoption process is time-consuming to ensure each animal returns home with the right family. ARL emphasizes matching the right family with the right pet. Ultimately, they want to strengthen the bond between people and their pets. To do this, the team visits potential adopters in their homes and introduces the entire family (including existing pets) to their new companion.
